"Wake up," I bark and punching him in the face. Kaden wakes with a start, wincing as he does so.

"What the—"

"Where is she?" I demand, ready to beat him to a pulp.

"What are you talking about?" He stares up, confusion marring his face. "Who?"

"The human woman," Reis says, authority dripping from his voice. "You took her, didn't you?"

Kaden looks up, eyes blurry, and a smug expression on his face. "Yeah?"

I grab him by the scruff of his shirt, lifting him and slamming him into the wall. "You let the human escape."

"What?" he whines, then laughs hysterically. "No, I didn't. Reis, the human was already gone by the time I found her in your bed. I swear." He looks away, a smirk making his face look more than slightly insane.

"You lying piece of shit," I growl and punch him in the gut.

He groans, then laughs hysterically like he's gone mad.

Reis places a hand on my shoulder. "Release him. He's no use to us in this condition and any pain you inflict will be buffered by the drink and I want him to feel every ounce of pain."

With a grunt, I drop Kaden and he slumps to the floor.

"Fuck you both. She thinks we're monsters," he spits. "Good riddance."

"What have you done, Kaden?" I growl, and he groans again, pressing his face into the wood.

"Nothing," he slurs, his eyes fluttering shut.

"What have you done, Kaden?" I growl, squaring my shoulders. My third form trying to break forth and rip his heart out.

His eyes snap open and find mine. "Your human is gone," he says, a hiccup interrupting him, then his eyes flutter shut.

"Where did you see her last?" I step closer, and he burps, squinting up at me.

"She's somewhere in the forest," he whispers as if it's a joke.

Reis and I exchange a dark look. Of course. He'd send her to her death without a thought.

"We'll have to split up," I say, feeling a familiar thrill at being given another chance to hunt.

"Agreed," Reis says with a look of determination in his gaze. "You take the northern forests. I'll take the southern ones."

"Good luck finding her." Kaden smirks. "Or should I say pieces of her if the beasts have left anything behind other than a fractured bone or two."

Reis roars, punching Kaden so hard a thunk sounds when his skull hits the wall behind him and the stones crumble, leaving an indent of his head and shoulder behind.

"We don't have time for this," I say, even though I want to pummel Kaden until he begs for mercy. "We can beat him up more later… after we find her."

Reis glares, panting.

But Kaden groans then laughs like he’s gone insane.

“Fuck,” Reis clenches and unclenches his fists. “You’re right.” Then he kicks Kaden in the side of his head and adds in a bit of blue magic, knocking him over and unconscious. Then he turns to me. "We have to move quickly. The queen's creatures are everywhere. If they find her, they'll rip her apart."

A memory of the human's terror-filled eyes flashes in my mind from when I choked her. Then it's quickly replaced with fear of what could happen to her.

Kaden is right... the fae beasts of the forest will be a much kinder death than anything the queen would do.
