As I watch them from afar, I can see the love and devotion they have for each other in their eyes. It is a love that transcends all boundaries, and it fills my heart with warmth and contentment that he's found happiness again.
I sit on the throne and my royal guards, my lovers bow.
This is just the beginning of our journey, and I know that with my men and my father by my side, I can accomplish anything.
The fae are ushered in and I tap the royal scepter on each of the new babies brought in for a blessing.
"Is that everyone?" my dad asks and Emrila nods.
"Awesome, ‘cause I'm starving." I stand up, the ballgown I'm forced to wear as queen feels like a golden trap, and the corset digs into my ribs.
"Come on," Kaden says, tugging me up the stairs to the balcony. "Let's show you the view."
"What?" I laugh. "I've seen it."
"Not on a rainbow evening," Reis adds.
"What?"
The four of us stand on the balcony and look out upon the kingdom. It's incredible, with rolling hills, mountains in the distance, and the late evening sunlight sparkling off of the azure lake. The triple rainbows in the sky make everything look like jewels.
"It's breathtaking," I whisper, turning to my guys.
"It's nothing compared to you," Kaden murmurs, nuzzling my neck.
I laugh, leaning into him and his arms.
"I still can't believe this is my life." I shake my head. Turning to the view again, I take it in.
"And we brought food." Reis bows and a table complete with loads of fruit, meat, bread, and ale fill the table.
I run to him, throwing my arms around him, and kissing him. "Thank you. This is amazing."
"All for you, my queen."
I blush, still not used to my title and role.
Thorne pulls out a chair for me. "Hurry up and eat or I'm going to eat everything. And I won't even save you some."
I laugh, scooping up a piece of fruit. "As if. There is no way you could eat this much, Thorne."
"We'll see, Your Highness."
I sit in his lap, and he kisses my forehead, loving me like a courtier should.
I dig in and enjoy the food with my guys, who are strong, loyal, and love me more than I ever thought possible.
Just like this kingdom, we were able to face the obstacles and keep standing strong. We were able to build a future, of all of us filled with love, adventure, and contentment.
We polish off the last of the food before rising from the heavy wooden table. Our bellies were full, we exchanged jokes and banter as we gathered our things and began our trek through the winding castle halls, hands intertwined.
A thrilling anticipation of the coming night’s adventures bubbles up inside me, making it impossible to stifle my smile, and with them, I'm ready for the next adventure with them.
EPILOGUE
ANNALISE
Back in our woodsy cabin for a cozy weekend getaway, I open the window. The shining sun casts a warm glow over the lush greenery outside that surrounds us. The scent of blooming flowers fills the air and a gentle breeze rustles the leaves of the trees. I feel more at home here than I do at the castle.
