Slowly, my knot calms down, and my cock slips out of her with a pop sound. Next, I help pull her underwear and jeans back up over her ass, then put my cock away. As soon as I zip up, a twig snaps somewhere nearby and my protective instincts kick into high gear, ready to defend her from any threat.

“Stay here,” I order, pulling away from her. My eyes scan the area, searching for the source of the noise. When I find the manhiding behind a large bush, staring at Kayla with lust in his eyes, I lose it.

“You fucking pervert!” I roar, charging towards him.

I spin around, my fists clenched. That’s when I see him. A man with a straggly beard, standing in the shadows. His eyes are fixed on Kayla, lust in his gaze.

I see blinding white.

Without thinking, I bolt towards him, my fists flying. I slam into him, my knuckles connecting with his jaw. He stumbles backwards, but doesn’t go down.

I keep hitting him, my rage taking over. I can’t let him near her. I won’t let him hurt her. Protect her.

“O-Omega,” he howls. “She looks like the one that’s missing.”

Fuck! My heart stops in my chest.

Kayla lets out a whimper, and I snap out of it.

I hit him again, harder this time. He falls to the ground, unconscious.

I turn to Kayla, my chest heaving. “Are you okay?”

She nods, her eyes filled with fear.

And I fucking hate that I put that look there, but I can’t help the rage that consumed me at the sight of that man leering at her.

“Are you okay?” I ask, my voice softer now.

She nods, slowly. “Yeah.”

But I’m fucking not. My heart is hammering in my chest and I’ve got to get her out of here. It’s only a matter of time before this asshole wakes up and blabs on anyone who will listen.

CHAPTER 31

KAYLA

The wind rips through my hair, tugging at the strands that escape from beneath the helmet. I’m clinging to Ryker, pressed against his back as he maneuvers the motorcycle with a controlled ferocity. He’s slower than he probably wants to be and I know it’s for me.

“Almost there,” he shouts over his shoulder, his voice barely audible over the roar of the engine.

I nod, though he can’t see it. The echo of that shout—the guy who recognized me in the park—ricochets in my skull. “There she is! The missing Omega!” It’s like he branded the words onto my brain.

My stomach churns. Three Alphas have knotted inside me but does it make a difference? Nexus doesn’t play by the rules; they’ll do whatever they want. They shocked Jess until she convulsed on the ground. What’s to stop them from punishing me for evading them?

I shudder, pushing away the invading thoughts.

We skid into the gravel driveway of the mansion, and Ryker cuts the engine. Helping me off the bike, his touch is surprisinglygentle. We shed our helmets and jackets in swift, unspoken agreement.

“Inside. Now.” Ryker’s hand is outstretched, urgency etched into every line of his body.

I grab his hand and we bolt for the door.

Inside, Liam and Dane are at the kitchen counter, their hands full of French dip sandwiches. The savory smell hits me hard, and my mouth waters. I want nothing more than to snatch one and devour it, but my stomach rebels, twisted in knots.

“Kayla, you okay?” Dane’s eyes rake over me, concern wrinkling his brow.

“Man in the park,” I gasp, struggling to catch my breath like I’ve been running forever instead of the quick jog from the garage to here. “He knew me.”
