“Okay I guess.”
“Yeah, I’m sure this is all scary and overwhelming. I’d tell you not to stress, but I doubt that would help you at all. Have you checked out the game room yet?” Completely changing subjects.
Matty cocked his head. “Game room?”
“Yeah. We got two. But the one is boring crap, like poker tables and stuff. The other has all the gaming consoles, VR, a big ass air hockey table, and all kinds of cool shit. You wanna go check it out?”
Matty looked at me like he was looking for permission, which was wild. Me? I’m the one who looked at other people for that. “Go ahead if you want. It’s pretty awesome.”
He turned to Skye. “Yeah, okay. Some of my friends at school had all the video games, but my parents never let us have any ofit. They had a game room too, but it was just a pool table and we weren’t allowed in there.”
“Yeah, that’s bullshit.” Skye replied bluntly. “You can go here whenever the fuck you want. Come on, I’ll show you.”
Matty stood up, actually looking excited, but he turned to me, “Are you coming?”
I looked at Maverick for permission, much like Matty did to me. I had a feeling that this set up was for a reason. It was way too orchestrated. “Brooks can maybe meet you later,” Maverick told him, confirming my theory, “I gotta talk to him for a little bit first, okay?”
I smiled, letting Matty know it was fine, and eventually he nodded and left with Skye.
“What’s wrong?” I asked as soon as they were out of ear shot.
Maverick took a seat next to me. “Nothing. Luca and Wes are almost home. I thought you might want to spend some time with Luc.”
I leaned into Mav, who immediately wrapped his arms around me. I burrowed my nose into his chest getting a good whiff of his woodsy scent.
“Thank you. I do. What about you and Skye?”
“Don’t worry, we’ll all get a chance to reconnect. All six of us. I think need that. But you and Luc need to have a conversation. He made a lot of promises to you he hadn’t lived up to.”
“We were busy. I understand.” Didn’t mean it didn’t hurt though. Maverick filled into the role, giving me some of the structure I craved, but Luca kept dangling this dream relationship over my head like a carrot, and I was desperate to get it. Plus I felt bad that Mav felt obligated to get in the middle of our crap. It made me want to downplay it.
“Don’t let him give you that excuse, brat. You’re part of this relationship as much as the rest of us are. Don’t ever forget that.”
“I won’t.”
“Come on, let’s go ambush them at the door.”
I rolled my eyes, but still jumped up and took Mav’s hand. “And you call me the brat.”
He laughed. “Someone has to keep Luca on his toes.”
Diego was already by the front door when we got there. I wasn’t sure if they told him too, or if he saw on the security cameras. He was doing much better than he was when I got back that night. It was a long night, that we spent lying face to face, our fingertips touching, while we talked about everything that happened in the few weeks since we last saw each other. He explained how he pushed Wes away and forced him to leave. They had talked some, but I was glad they’d finally have their chance to air everything out too. Diego really fucking cared about Wes, and I could tell Wes loved Diego, or was getting there. I wanted them to work. D deserved that. And if they could really figure out a Daddy/boy relationship that D was comfortable with, then even better.
The door opened. Wes walked in first. He gave me and Mav a warm smile, but then his eyes found Diego leaning against the wall, arms crossed, and he was gone. It was like the rest of us just disappeared, and I fucking swooned. Especially when D got all red and embarrassed. My swooning hit an all-time, kick my feet and giggle level when Wes asked if he could hug and kiss Diego and my brother said yes! Yup, I almost fucking collapsed from shock and happiness when Wes lightly cupped his cheek and kissed his lips.
It was totally innocent, but D melted into the kiss and touched Wes’s arm and just kept smiling as Wes whispered something in his ear. It was beautiful, and I was so wrapped up in the scene, I almost forgot why I was here. That was until I heard, “Hi trouble,” in that deep smoldering voice. I whipped my head toward Luca, no longer a voyeur to my brother, but onceagain the main character in my own smutty romance when he said. “I’ve missed you.”
CHAPTER 47
LUCA
My ribs hurt like hell, but nothing hurt more than the hesitant look I received from Brooks. It was time to finally remedy this. This shitstorm was far from over, but even though I kept telling myself I’d put my men first, I hadn’t been. There was always something that I used as an excuse, and they all paid the price for it. I would make it up to Skye and Maverick later, but right now, Brooks needed my full attention.
“I missed you too,” he replied quietly.
“Let’s go up to the room to talk?”
Brooks nodded and I was relieved when he willingly took my hand. As we walked up to the bedroom, he updated me on what was going on in the house while I stayed at the hospital with Wes and shared his conversation with Matty.
