The article itself went on to speculate about the man and why I was slumped against him. There was a statement from Flynn saying it was a friend helping me to a cab because I had a bout of food poisoning.

It was a contrived excuse, yet he’d clearly been available to cover the truth, which meant heknewthe story was going to hit.

And he hadn’t warned me.

My phone rang again but this time it was Flynn. I answered on the first ring. “You’ve got a lot of fucking nerve,” I hissed.

He paused. “You’ve seenThe Post.”

“Yeah.”

“Where did you go? You left my suite.”

“Why would I have stayed?” I snapped. “You didn’t come back—which now I know was because you were giving statements toThe Post!”

“If you’ll let me explain—”

I hung up on him.

My phone rang immediately.

I turned it on silent and then went to take a shower.

I got out of the shower, my anger slightly diffused. After pulling on some comfortable clothes, I headed toward the kitchen and let out a startled yelp when I saw someone sitting on the couch.

Flynn stood and turned.

“How the hell did you get in here?” I demanded.

“I made myself a set of keys.”

“When?”

“Yesterday.”

“You mean you made a set of keys while I slept the day away in your hotel suite?” I asked.

“Yes.”

“You went into my purse and helped yourself to my keys. Anything else?”

He pretended to look affronted. “No. That would’ve been an invasion of privacy.”

“Get out.”

“No. You wouldn’t let me explain about the article, so I came over here to do it. But before I do, you don’t ever leave my hotel suite without texting or calling me to tell me you’re leaving.”

I crossed my arms over my chest and glared at him. “My phone was dead. I left a message with your hotel staff. And—go fuck yourself.”

His jaw clenched in anger. “Did Chelsea accost you in the park?”

I blinked. “She did.”

“She accosted you in the park to warn you away from me. Thank God that was all she did. I want you to tell me if you leave my suite purely for your own safety, not for any other reason.”

“Oh,” I said, deflating.

“As for the article—”
