“I bet.”
I gave my friend a moment to tell me why she’d cheated on her fiancé, but Ash didn’t volunteer any information. The secrecy was killing me.
My phone beeped. “Ash, I’ve got to go. I’ve got another call.”
“Okay. I’ll see you Friday at the charity event.”
“Maybe before then.” I hung up and switched over to my other call. “Flynn?”
“Barrett, can you meet me in Brad’s security office?”
“Sure.”
I rode down in the private elevator, walked across the lobby, and knocked on the security office door before entering. Brad and Lacey were the only other occupants besides Flynn in the room. Lacey’s face was pinched with tension, Brad’s mouth was grim, and Flynn—well, Flynn looked like he was ready to kill someone.
“How is…?” I asked Lacey.
“Bridget,” Lacey supplied. “She’s resting. Doctor says she’ll be okay.”
My gaze found Flynn’s. I refused to shrink away when I saw his rage. He was in control of it and himself. That was Flynn.
“How did this happen? Could it have been a client?” I asked.
“Our clients are vetted and screened, so our ladies are protected. Everyone who comes to The Fifteenth Floor is put into our computer system. We went through our visitors last night, and they were all regulars. Nothing out of the ordinary,” Lacey said.
“Maybe it was one of the girls. Maybe Chelsea gave one of them the drugs,” I suggested.
“Long shot, but it’s an idea,” Flynn said. “I want the girls followed. See if any of them meet with someone in Dolinsky’s crew.”
“Dolinsky?” I asked with a frown. I’d never heard that name mentioned before. “Who’s he?”
Flynn’s voice was harsh. “The bastard trying to destroy me.”
Chapter 24
“Igor Dolinsky is the leader of the Russian mob in New York,” Flynn said.
“He’s a dangerous, vicious bastard,” Brad supplied. Flynn glared at him, but Brad just shrugged. “You can’t keep her in the dark on this one. She needs to know.”
“Know what?” I said.
“That Dolinsky is a dangerous, vicious bastard,” Flynn repeated. “Let’s leave it at that.”
Flynn had a mob boss for an enemy? How the hell was I going to reconcile that?
“I’m supposed to trust you, right?” I raised my eyebrows.
Flynn’s body was tight with tension, his mouth firm and unyielding. He didn’t say anything more about Dolinsky and it pissed me off. I looked to Lacey and Brad—both of them wore blank masks. They took their cues from their leader. It reminded me they were a well-oiled trifecta, and I was just Flynn’s bed partner.
Not wanting to get into it with Flynn in front of his colleagues, I did the respectable thing and left the office. I wondered if Brad and Lacey would berate Flynn for not bringing me into their confidences. I understood he wanted to protect me, but at what point was it dangerous to leave me out?
I headed back up to Flynn’s suite to take a short nap. After setting the alarm clock, I turned my phone on silent. I had rehearsal in a few hours, and I needed to be alert and awake. Just as I was about to fall asleep, I heard the elevator doors.
“You were asleep,” he stated, entering the bedroom.
“Almost.” I grabbed a pillow and snuggled it against my chest as I rolled over onto my side. “I can’t function on four hours of sleep. And I have rehearsal tonight.”
“No, you don’t.”
