“I think so.”

Flynn grinned. “He lasted longer than I expected.”

“You’re not worried about him?”

“No. He’ll be fine. If I know Malcolm, then he’ll find a way to sneak out.”

“He’s proud of you.”

Flynn gave me a lopsided grin. “It’s strange, you know? I’m an adult. I own a luxury hotel empire that I’m expanding, and yet, knowing Malcolm’s proud of me…”

I nodded in complete understanding.

“Ready for another drink?” Flynn asked.

“I’m fine. I need some food first.”

“Good call, but I—”

“Flynn,” a woman’s voice purred.

“Lana,” Flynn greeted, all the warmth in his voice evaporating.

Lana’s cold blue eyes devoured him, reminding me of a piranha. She was beautiful and blond, statuesque in a stunning green gown that clung to her curves.

The woman’s eyes never left Flynn’s face. “How are you?”

“Well,” he clipped. “Lana Struthers, I’d like to introduce you to my girlfriend, Barrett Schaefer.”

Lana’s gaze finally turned away from Flynn to rest on me as if I were a lowly, pesky insect. “We’ve met.”

“We have,” I agreed.

“So, you’re dating a cocktail waitress who works for you?” Lana sneered at Flynn.

“Barrett no longer works for me. Call it a conflict of interest,” he said.

I possessively stole a hand across Flynn’s back and molded myself against him. “You seem surprised that we’re dating. It was mentioned inThe Postnot too long ago.”

Lana’s face went white with unmistakable fury before she attempted to ignore me. To Flynn she said, “I thought you didn’t believe in girlfriends.”

“Not those who attempt to trap me,” Flynn said, his voice controlled.

Lana glowered at him and then left in an angry flurry of silk.

“Well, she was something,” I retorted.

“Aye.”

“Not very bright, though. Everyone knows that if you want to trap a man you poke holes in your diaphragm—not his condoms.”

He let out a loud laugh, causing other guests to look at us. I bit my lip, drawing his gaze to my mouth.

“What?” he asked.

“Did you ever…”

“Yes?”
