When he releases my neck, I collapse to my knees on the floor, coughing and gasping for breath, disturbingly aware how close my face is to his dick. Instead of emphasizing his point even further, he bends to pick me up, carrying me to my chambers. I clamp my mouth shut but my body remains tense and my breathing feels labored for the duration of the trip. I take the opportunity to see new parts of the castle and map out what I know of it in my head.

Once back in my chambers, he places me on the bed and shackles my wrist and ankles in the metal restraints. I breathe a sigh of relief when I don’t feel the drain from the metal, knowing my powers will continue to come back. Hiding my relief from him, I stare up at the ceiling, refusing to turn my gaze to him.

“I will be away to handle some business for my god for a short duration. Your maid will be in to feed you and allow you time to relieve yourself.”

Liviana … this is perfect.

“Otherwise, you will stay chained to this bed. I suggest you take this time to figure out how to grovel at my feet for forgiveness for your earlier transgressions.”

I barely hold back my laugh, just wanting him to get the fuck out already.

He stands there in silence, waiting for a response, but I continue to ignore him.

The bed creaks as he climbs on it and over me and, before I can turn my head, he’s slamming his lips to my own. Pain flares from the crack in my lip from his earlier slap and I clamp my mouth shut, refusing his tongue entry.

He grips my chin tightly, forcing my mouth open, shoving his tongue inside, causing me to gag at the intrusion. I resist the urge to bite his tongue, well aware that will just make things a hundred times worse.

Moments later, he stands and turns, walking towards the door, calling out over his shoulder, “I suggest that when I get back, you give me a warm welcome—or things will not be pleasant for you.”

The door closes behind him with a lock and I heave a sigh of relief, relaxing into the bed. My heart is hammering in my chest from his advances and I allow myself a few moments to collect my thoughts.

My stomach grumbles. I figure it must be the middle of the night by now, depending on how long I was out with the doctor. I force myself to close my eyes and try to sleep, knowing I’m going to need my energy for our plans.

You can’t fuck up this chance, Lana. It’s time to get your people out.

Chapter Seventeen

Zedd

“So, we’re seriously going up against a dark god? That’s not a practical joke?” I ask the group for clarification because what Hale just told us is a bit insane.

Luke mutters, “Just your typical Tuesday. Next up, a dinner date with Lucifer!”

Leo slams his fist into the dining room table, making us all jump. “This is serious!”

Luke’s eyes widen at his brother’s reaction. I put my hands up in a placating gesture, attempting to soothe Leo. I’ve never seen him this on edge. “Leo, you know better than anyone that just because he’s making a joke, doesn’t mean that Luke isn’t taking this seriously. Now, let’s focus on formulating a plan. Hale? Serenity?”

That pulls them out of their thoughts and they both turn their eyes to me. Serenity taps her finger against her lips, her brow furrowed, a slight wrinkle in her skin. Is she aging? Or is it stress?

Hale shrugs helplessly. “This iswayout of my league. All I know is that it’s more imperative than ever that we get to Lana. She’s trapped in this god’s plan that she probably knows nothing about.”

I nod. “Yes, she went to our realm thinking that Anshar was her biggest concern and enemy. We don’t have the time to stay here and train anymore. We need to find her.”

The twins say nothing but nod in silent support.

I look over to Serenity and her mates, starting to lose my patience as they stay quiet. Leo beats me to it. “Why are we sitting here with our thumbs up our asses instead of gathering supplies to leave?”

Serenity scoffs. “Be my guest, though I’m not sure how you think you’re getting back to your realm without me.”

Leo begins to rise from his chair but Luke yanks him firmly back down. “Patience, brother. We will get to her but only once we have a plan. We would do her more harm than good by going in without one.”

Derrick rubs small circles on Serenity’s shoulder. “It’s time, love.”

She shakes her head and leans forward, dislodging his touch from her and running her fingers through her hair. “I promised her I wouldn’t lead them to her until they’re ready.”

Seth responds. “They’re as ready as they can be.”

Her hands fist in her hair in her frustration. “That isn’t good enough. I cannot have their blood on my hands, Seth. I can’t watch Lana go through life without one of them because I let them go too soon.”
