My white mist comes to the forefront of my thoughts and for some reason, I just know it’ll work.

"Give me control. I can do this."

He scoffs."Absolutely not. You are a human with no powers."

"You have no other option and we're running out of time,"I note as Sebastian slowly moves along the wall, dragging Lana with him as he edges towards the hole leading to his escape.

He doesn't respond and I goad him."You're really going to let your kingdom know that they can beat your precious Oslana to near death and escape with their life?"

Without warning, I mesh completely into my body, feeling all of my limbs come alive for the first time in weeks.

"Do not let him leave here with his heart beating."

Gladly.

I search my core for my power as Serenity's mates taught me, push aside the black and purple ball of dark energy. I know it’s there. I felt it. I hold on to it, though it feels different in my physical form. It feels like sludge jostling around in my chest and I give a final push and feel it.

The white energy.

I latch onto it and let it flow through my body, piercing Sebastian with a cold stare. "Enjoy your death."

The energy spills from my fingertips, clouds of white energy rushing towards him and for a moment, he only stands there and laughs—before the screams start.

He drops Lana and to my shock, the clouds of my energy hover around her, protecting her but not touching her. My powers won't harm my mate.

I run and scoop her into my arms, letting loose more energy, shrouding Sebastian in so much fog that I can't make out his body any longer. His screams, ringing, laced with pain, before they just … stop. The clouds stay hovering around him for long moments to ensure he’s dead. There’s no reality in which he survives today.

My energy pools back into my core, the fog fades and his body—or what's left of it—comes into view. His body is rotted all the way to the bone, his mouth open in an eternal scream.

I take this moment to look down at Lana, enjoying the feeling of her in my arms.

My love.My mate.

My mate.

My soul sighs in bliss and I lean to kiss her forehead, letting my lips linger against her skin for a few moments before pulling back. "I will never give up on you, Lana. I will keep fighting for us and our family."

"Your time is done."

The venom in Anshar’s voice makes me flinch. Prepared for the worst, I gently lay Lana on the ground, unsure of how this mental fight will affect our physical body. The last thing I'd want is to crush or drop her.

"Bring it. I'm not letting you take my body again, you piece of shit."

A dark laugh rings in my mind and pain floods me. I drop to my knees, holding the back of my head in my hands with my forehead pressed to the floor as he chuckles in my head.

"Thank you for killing that pathetic fae but I can take it from here."

No.

I fall to my side and roll onto my back, my body convulsing as I fight his darkness in my core. It feels like tar seeping through my limbs and I become numb to my body as my arms drop down helplessly.

I stare up at the ceiling as my chest heaves up and down. Clinging to my white ball of light, I cry out, "Gaia! Help me!"

"Gaia can't help you, human."

Maybe she refuses to claim me as one of her own when I have this darkness in me.

I'm alone in this fight.
