"Of course. I'll stay with Milo tonight, if that's okay?" I inquired to the man in question.

He polished off his final sandwich and sucked on his finger to remove the sauce. "As if I would let you out of my sight. One of us needs to be with you at all times until we figure out how the pack will behave with this development. I don't trust anyone to act civilly."

Seth nodded at him, "We're in agreement. Your safety comes first, Kira."

Stepping back from him, my eyes widened in shock, "Wow, you must be serious to use my actual name."

All of his usual playfulness seeped away until I stared into the eyes of a man who would burn the world down for me and not think twice about it. The change rocked me to my core and pricked my eyes with tears at the apparent depth of his feelings for me.

"I will never joke around when it comes to your safety. You are the most important thing to me now, and I won't allow anyone to harm you."

The urge sat on the tip of my tongue to tell him that he had allowed people to harm me foryearsup until now, but for some reason I found the anger at that dissipating. It was overridden by the desire to accept the bond the goddess had blessed us with, and to allow him a chance to prove the man that he could be.

"We should go before the alpha or anyone else gets wind of us being here or of what happened. I'd rather let them know of these circumstances on our terms," Milo stated while piling another plate full of food and grabbing a bottle of whiskey.

"You guys head back to Milo's place. I'll come find you in the morning so we can face the pack together."

My heart warmed at the easy comradery between the three of us. They seemed to accept this bond and each other without question. Seth grabbed Jameson's plate and dropped a quick kiss to my lips before slipping out the door.

My wolf whined at seeing him go, but I attempted to placate her. He wasn't leaving us like Jameson. He would be back. He was ours.

"Grab a bottle of coke from the fridge and let's get out of here, Babe."

Babe? I like the sound of that.

I did as Milo asked, and we headed out the front of the dining hall, towards his home on the outer ring of houses. The alpha's house stood at the center, with rings of houses built around it. From an aerial view, it looked like a target ring with the alpha's home as the bullseye.

Milo's parents were low in the pack’s ranks, so they lived on the outer rim. He had decided to build a home near them instead of waiting to find out his place in the pecking order once he shifted. He didn't care about the prestige that came with a higher ranking and said family came first no matter how high up the ladder you climbed.

After tonight, it was clear that he would have been very high up the ladder with how quickly he’d shifted and found me.

I admired his bare upper body with the moonlight glowing on him. It hit me out of nowhere that he had no marks from his fight with Jameson.

"Are you hurt at all? I saw your wolf bleeding after Jameson bit into your neck."

"Wolves have heightened healing powers. He only inflicted a few superficial wounds, and they healed rather quickly. That's why I stayed in my wolf state until the wounds fully mended."

I switched up the topic, not enjoying the memory of Jameson hurting him despite his claim that he’d only suffered minor injuries.

"I thought you didn't drink soda? You said it was bad for our bodies." I dangled the coke up in the air with the question.

A smirk appeared, and he chuckled before answering, "The coke is for you. I don't think you can drink straight whiskey, and we're definitely having some drinks tonight."

I wasn't much of a drinker in general, and he was probably right, but damn did my wolf not like his dig that we couldn't hold our own with him. She was going to get me into shit with that, I could already tell. I said a prayer, hoping that my new metabolism would burn off alcohol quickly, or else tomorrow would be more miserable than I already anticipated.

Chapter Nine

Kira

Nerves beganto build in my stomach as Milo opened the smooth wooden door of his cabin. I had never been inside his home before, and it felt extremely intimate. Glancing around, I saw that the open floor plan offered much more space than my small cottage. A cute kitchenette sat off of the living room, where I stood gawking at the beautiful, high arching exposed beams. I made note of the comfy looking dark leather sectional positioned in front of a large, already lit fireplace against the far wall.

Talk about a fire hazard.

My nerves were making me focus on everything but his naked torso and the fact that he was mine, officially.

Had I thanked Selene yet for that? I needed to.

He headed straight to the kitchen, depositing the food and alcohol, whilst I stumbled after him awkwardly, unsure of where to go. It felt wrong to wander around without him, but man, did my skin itch to discover more about him and his home.
