There was a part of me that knew he was right to let me go, but another part of me was heartbroken over it. Heartbroken that he hadn’t been able to instead find a compromise. Why couldn’t he have come with me and made an effort to prove he wasn’t the selfish devil who had once ruined this realm? Why couldn’t he have done anything other than push me through a damned portal?
Was that just...it? Would we just...never see one another again?
I swallowed down my panic, and when Finias sat me down and Adrien offered me a bowl of stew, I realized all of them were looking at me.
“Princess,” Drayven’s voice was rough. “Where the hell have you been?”
Now, how did I manage to tell themwithoutmentioning the devil was awakeandhe was my mate?
CHAPTER SIXTEEN
Ama
"So, what had happened was..." I trailed off as I finished spooning the delicious stew into my mouth, attempting to put off this conversation for as long as possible.
Seven pairs of eyes stared at me so intensely I wanted to roll myself into the blanket on the bed and become a burrito, hiding away from them and their potential fury or judgement. Instead, I pulled the large jacket I was currently wrapped in tighter, as if it was my shield. I really should have known better at this point—should have known they would be supportive and understanding...or at least, the majority of them would.
A part of me was still sensitive to Colt, Nico, and Jace not wanting to share me for a while, though they were all finally coming around and accepting it. I was petrified that dropping this bomb would set them back after we had just finally reached this amazing understanding between us.
I wanted to bask in them being on board completely, the group seemingly at peace for the first time ever. But I knew it would be wrong of me to withhold the truth from them, so I would just have to risk it and hope that we could all work through this together.
"Beauty," Adrien cooed as he sat down next to me and took my hand, brushing his thumb along my skin. "You can tell us anything. We will be quiet and listen without getting upset," he said to me, but the way that he emphasized his words while looking at the other guys made it obvious who he was really talking to.
It was kind of hot the way he commanded them to obey.
Fuck. No. Focus, Ama.
I was still riding the high from my sexual feeding, and it was clouding my mind. It was utterly intoxicating, and I wanted nothing more than to win this war and hide away in one of our homes for weeks while we all explored our sexual relationships and my Succubus side was allowed to run rampant for the first time ever. I would be whole with my mates and my magic at peace.
Well...with almost all of my mates.
Drawing in a deep, shuddering breath, I blew it back out loudly, preparing myself to just lay it all out there. "Okay. I know this is all definitely going to be a shock because it was to me as well. I won't blame you if you need to, uhm, curse or punch something," I hedged.
My words set them on edge, and fire burned in their eyes.
"Okay, so the devil woke up and took me to his castle," I started, but I was quickly cut off by multiple men throwing their arms in the air and cursing.
"What the fuck?"
"He's real?!"
"No devildamned way."
"I'll kill him."
Adrien let out a threatening growl that had need pooling in my stomach, "Shut the fuck up."
I almost laughed because, damn had I missed them all so much. It felt so nice to be back with them and falling back into the dynamic of how they all worked together. It was a little different than the last time we were all together, with Nico and Jace seemingly completely on board now, but truly, they were all the same alpha males I'd fallen in love with.
"Continue, beauty," Adrien prodded softly.
"Yes, the devil is real. His name is Luce, and he really did just wake up from his seemingly eternal slumber. Remember when the volcano began to stir and the earthquake rocked the realm?"
I waited for their nods of understanding.
"That was him waking up."
"Okay, I guess it's his prerogative to wake up and shit, but why did he take you?" Colt asked, rubbing his chin with his fingers, his face strained as he tried to piece it all together.
