Same, dude, same.

I couldn’t help but chuckle at Luca’s rigid stance as Milo clapped him on the back, laughing as he said, “It’s okay to not have all the answers, dude. This is why we are meant to be a pack—we all bring something to the table.”

Wise words.

“Remind me again what Caleb brings to the table?” Luca queried, deadly serious for about five seconds before his smile took over, lightening the mood tenfold.

Caleb began to curl Kira in his arms like he was at the gym working out as he huffed. “Besides these weapons of mass destruction?” he answered, flexing his biceps.

We all rolled our eyes in unison, but it was clear he brought a much-needed lightness to the group, pulling us out of those tough moments.

“Put me down, you barbarian,” Kira commanded while chuckling, and Caleb was quick to comply. As soon as her feet touched the ground, though, he swooped in to press a kiss to her lips and dipped her backwards, the strands of his honey-colored hair glimmering beneath the light that streamed in from outside.

As they straightened, he tucked Kira under his arm and she looked at us all with a newly lit determination flashing in her eyes. “There’s a portal to Hell, hidden behind a veil. Once we make a camp for our army and gather our forces, we have to capture a Daimona. A drop of demon blood is needed to pull the security ward off the portal and make it visible to us. Then, we go to Hell and kick Satan’s ass.”

Catch a Daimona and go to Hell. Kick Satan’s ass…

Yup, this was going to be that simple…not.

CHAPTERFOUR

KIRA

As I spooned more broth into my mouth, I noticed Wes’s hungry gaze on my mouth. He made me feel like his prey, and I had to resist growling at him in a natural response to feeling threatened. He tracked my movements with his vibrant green eyes, making me quirk a brow at him in question.

I knew he was protective, but this was different. It’s not like he thought I was going to choke on my food and die…did he? Perhaps he was worried about that, with my brush with death recently. Maybe everything was a danger to me in his eyes.

Death by broth…or maybe death by choking on a spoon. What a tragic way to go.

I wrinkled my nose in confusion as he coughed into his hand and averted his eyes, latching on to the conversation between Luca, Caleb, and Tian to his left. His eyes kept shifting back towards me, though, giving away that he most definitely was not listening to a single word of their conversation.

What was up with him?

Snorting, I continued eating my food and sighed contentedly as the warmth began to chase away the odd chill that had lingered in me since awakening. Maybe it was the chill of being on the cusp of death, but it was like a bone-chilling cold that I felt like I couldn’t get rid of despite now being clothed in men’s sweatpants and a hoodie.

“He’s been on…edge,” Milo explained, seemingly noticing the odd non-verbal exchange between myself and Wes. His deep voice pulled my attention as he leaned in to whisper. “All four of them have,” he added, his eyes drifting over the three stooges and Tian.

I gave him a perplexed look. It felt like that was a given. “That’s not surprising, seeing as how I was stabbed and all that,” I mumbled around a spoonful of broth, but his chuckling response made me halt and turn to look at him. I glared a little. “What? Just tell me.”

His brows lifted and his cheeks reddened to a faint blush as he cleared his throat, clearly uncomfortable.

Milo, blushing? What the heck. Now my curiosity was more than piqued.

I poked him in the shoulder, dropping my voice and flicking my eyes up to make sure the men in question weren’t listening, “What part of this conversation could possibly be making you blush?”

Thankfully, it was just Seth, Milo and I on the end of the long table, and no one else was in this dining hall. However, the absence of more people made it too quiet here to have private conversations with ease.

Milo dropped a heavy arm around my shoulder, pulling me into his side as he dropped a kiss to the top of my head. I sighed in contentment, snuggling into his toasty bonfire scent as he stooped down to talk in my ear once more. “Their wolves are making them edgy because they need to consummate the bond, baby.”

My eyes widened and my mouth popped open, understanding dawning on me. So much had occurred since finding my new mates, that my baser instincts had been completely overshadowed. But that itchy feeling under my skin like I wasn’t at ease and in need ofsomethingwas present when I thought about it.

That’s why Wes had been more intent in his staring. Why Luca was challenging me more in his restlessness. Caleb was always flirtatious and forward, so nothing new there. Tian was older, and his experience probably lent him a bit more restraint in the primal need to cement the mating.

“Oh,” I breathed out—a master linguist for sure—causing Milo’s side to rumble with barely contained laughter.

The chill that had been pestering me was completely gone now, replaced with a need that had me feeling completely irrational with the desire pulsating through me just from that revelation. I knew I needed to focus on formulating battle plans and ensuring the packs around the world were up-to-date on our plans right now.Right?

Hell, I needed to do so much, yet now that Milo had mentioned this, my thoughts were all centered around completely indecent ideas.
