“I love him, you know that, right?” I rebutted, shocked by his inference of our relationship. “He isn’t just a notch on my bedpost. He is my mate and I would do anything for him.”

“Would you die for him?”

Without hesitation, I answered quickly, “Yes.”

Malice flowed through his face as he spat at me, turning his back and pulling the door closed. Just before it could shut he said, “Then die.”

Who knowshow long I stood here, chained to the wall and waiting to see exactly who Reagen had dumped me with. Deep down I knew it was Satan, even without Reagen having his blood. I just didn’t want to admit that to myself until I saw him with my own eyes. Didn’t want to think about how I had spectacularly fucked up once more, trusting in those around me.

When would I learn? The guys had been right when I woke up from my week-long coma with Selene. It was my heart that would get me killed.

Can you access your powers?

Groaning from the throbbing ache in my head from where I was hit, I tried to focus on the well within me that held my energy. After a few minutes of searching, I came up dry.

No, there’s nothing there at all. It’s like the flow of it that normally flows through me has been completely cut off.

I bet the fucker has something special imbued into these cuffs like the dagger that stabbed you and robbed you of your powers. He was prepared for this.

Before we could speak further, the door swung open, causing me to snap my head up as I took in the man standing there. After seeing Jace and Maya turn into towering demons before my eyes, I didn’t trust that this man was what he seemed. It was clear no one was anymore.

His vibrant red hair flowed to his shoulders, matching the piercing eyes that took my breath away. They were the ones I’d seen in visions. It was him.

Satan. Wrath.

The light from the candles reflected off of his pale skin, illuminating his fair features. Freckles littered his skin, from his face to his thick forearms I could see due to his black dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up. He had a strong jawline and full lips that pulled into a smile upon seeing my inspection of him.

“Do you like what you see?” he asked, his deep voice rumbling in delight. He didn’t wait for my response before barreling on. “That’s great, because we’re going to getveryacquainted with one another, my dear.”

His long legs had him crossing to the side of the room quickly, and he pulled a chain I hadn’t noticed resting there. Immediately, my wrists were yanked up and a yelp fell from my lips as I felt myself hoisted up and my feet left the ground.

The strain it put on my shoulders was brutal, all of my weight being suspended by these chains.

Tying off the chain and hooking it back onto the wall, he crossed over to me, now eye level with me. Pulling a dagger that looked suspiciously like the one I’d been stabbed with by Christofer, I flinched, wiggling in my chains in a feeble attempt to get away.

It couldn’t end now. I had to fulfill this prophecy.

A laugh boomed through the room. “I see you recognize my prized weapon,” he observed, his smile turning sinister as his eyes narrowed. “Fret not, young prophetess,” he tutted, “I won’t be carving your skin again right now.”

My breathing became ragged as fear blossomed through me. I didn’t trust his words. If it suited his needs ten minutes from now, I knew that tune would change.

My eyes darted to the tip of the blade as he cut into his thumb before lifting it to my lips. “Why would I try to kill you again, when it seems that didn’t work the first time? Instead, I will turn you into my puppet and ensure my victory this time. You were their only hope of success, but you will be mine. I will break you until you are willingly standing at my side, my new queen to replace the one your kind stole from me.”

Thinning my lips as he tried to push his finger into my mouth, I shook my head side to side, fighting it off. This couldn’t happen.

“Guards!” he snapped, the same two that had locked me up before coming in. “We can do this the easy way or the hard way, Kira. What’s it going to be?”

My chest heaved as I stared into his eyes and let my gaze of hatred answer for me.

I wouldn’t be tasting a fucking drop of his blood.

Surprisingly, he backed off, stepping two feet away and motioning for the guards. My brows pinched together in confusion, but as their fists rained down on my body, I quickly realized he didn’t just mean he was going to break my mind.

He was also going to break my body.
