The phone is plucked from my hand.
“Enough. We’ve got kinky chasing to do,” Finn states, then hangs up and shoves the phone in his pocket. He grabs my chin. “You kidnapped me, I kidnapped you. That’s even.”
I gaze up at him in disbelief.
“Now pet, this is the new compensation deal. You want your cottage?” He shifts his hand across my cheek, and down my neck before encircling my throat.
“Yes,” I breathe. With his fingers around my neck, I really do feel like his leashed pet.
“Reach the house before I catch you and it’s yours, no strings attached.”
“What, really?” Wasn’t that what I most wanted a lifetime ago when I was driving up here with a man I thought was Noah in the back of my car?
“I’ll give you ten seconds before I chase. Get into the cottage and you can drive back to London. I should probably say that you can have some boring little life without me, I’ll look after your brother, and let you go.”
I’m shaking my head, but there’s no need, because Finn gives me a roguish grin.
“But I won’t. All that will happen is we’ll play a longer game until you admit that you’re mine.”
My heart is fluttering like a caged bird.
His.
He lowers his voice to a rough growl and presses his fingers into the back of my neck, hard and possessive. “Whereas if I catch you, I’m going to hold you down, fuck you, and put a baby into you.”

FINN
Her mouth falls open.
“I’m going to make you mine in every way. I will hold you down and take everything you’ve promised with those pretty eyes of yours since you first looked across the pub at me.”
The savage beast in my chest roars with approval at this plan.
It’s sunset. The sky is stained red and casting us into shadow. Millie’s blonde hair is tinged pink. She’s looking at me warily, as though uncertain I mean what I said.
“Go on then.Run.”
She blinks and for a second I think she might argue. Then she’s dashing away over the sand. Her feet kick behind her and my cock thickens and heats as I watch her. My pet.
I give her a head start while I rip off my T-shirt then follow.
“When I catch you, I’m going to hold you down and make you pay,” I call after her and she shrieks, glancing over her shoulder, her ponytail streaming behind her. She’s unutterably beautiful.
Her legs pump faster, and I have to accelerate to keep up. And my god, chasing her down is as good as stalking her. Better, even, because she’s in sight, close enough to touch very soon. And hunting down my pet is my new favourite game.
She’s going to bemine.

MILLIE
I sprint along the beach, my mind racing as fast as my legs, some base instinct and fear triggered by Finn growling at me and telling me to run.
And the husky promise of what he’ll do if he catches me—when he catches me—surges through my arteries as strongly as the blood and adrenaline.
Why am I running? Do I really just want my parents’ cottage back, and a sane, normality? The lonely life.
