A furious expression enters his eyes, and it's all I can do not to flinch away from it.

"Get out of my room, Bastian."

"Beatrice..."

"No. Get out, I don't want to hear anything else from you." My heart pounds as I wait for him to respond. There's a part of me that's worried he's going to refuse to leave and I'll have to do something drastic in order to get him out of here. But thankfully, he seems to think better of it.

He stalks off without saying a word, slamming the door shut behind him.

My entire body is shaking and I just stand staring at the door, hoping that this truly is the end of it, but fearing it's just the beginning of my brother hating my betrothed.

I stumble over to the bed, curling up and putting my arms around Pip as the tears come. She lets me cry, her warm body giving me the comfort I want it to. I can't believe that this is how my morning is ending. Waking up in Linc's arms was more than I imagined it would be, and yet now it's tainted by whatever it is that Bastian is thinking and feeling, and the realisation that my relationship with my brother isn't what I thought it was.

Somehow, despite that, I have to go about my day learning to be the perfect noble daughter and future princess without letting on in any way that everything has changed.
