Caden set the glass down and fixed me with a stare. For a moment, I thought he hadn’t heard me, that my words had evaporated, lost in the fog of his suspicions. “That’s it?”

That’s it?“That’s your reaction to us having a baby?”

He was on his feet before I could blink, every line of his body alive with restless energy. He crossed the room in three strides and grabbed my face with both hands. Then he kissed me, not a soft peck but a slow, reverent kiss new lovers shared.

I was breathless by the time he let go.

“I already knew you were pregnant,” he murmured. He pulled back, resting his forehead against mine. “You’re late, and you’re never late.”

I blinked, feeling somewhat mortified.

Perks of being married to a doctor: free professional healthcare services. A disadvantage: zero privacy. Caden didn’t give a shit about HIPAA where I was concerned. “Of course you knew,” I huffed.

He shrugged, mouth twisting into a rueful half-smile. “Come on, baby. Give me a little credit. You haven’t had a drop of alcohol in days.”

“Why didn’t you say anything if you knew? I’ve been freaking out for weeks.” I punched him, gently, on the shoulder. “You’re such an asshole.”

He caught my wrist and held it there, eyes softening. “I’m your asshole.”

For a stretch of time, we stood like that, tangled together, his hand stroking the back of my neck.

“So, you’re happy about this?” I asked a little nervously.

He let out a short, hoarse laugh. “I thought you were trying to leave me. Instead, you’re having my baby,” he said, voice rawwith something that sounded frighteningly like relief. He kissed my forehead. “I’m more than a little happy about it.”

I grinned, relieved, as his thumb traced slow circles over my knuckles. There was a lightness to his touch, an ease I hadn’t felt in days.

“Most of all, I’m glad you’re tied to me for the rest of your life.” He pushed me against the desk. When his fingers trailed over the hem of my dress, I grabbed his hand.

“Are you insane?” I hissed. “Not here.”

“I haven’t touched you in days. I’ve been going crazy thinking you wanted out. Don’t tell me not to touch you right now.”

“But this is Zane’s office.”

“So?”

He pulled at my dress, and my gaze darted between him and the door. I didn’t even lock it!

“They’ll know what we’re doing.”

He bent down, lips brushing my ear. “Not if we’re quiet.”

I squealed when he lifted me onto the desk. I reclined as he advanced, my spine meeting the polished wood, toes barely reaching the edges. His fingers found the zipper of my white dress, eyes drinking me in with a hunger that made my breath catch. When he unbuttoned his shirt, revealing tanned skin inch by inch, I could only stare at my Adonis husband.

“Caden,” I whispered, my voice breaking. “This is a bad idea.”

The hallway outside was filled with the noise of family, laughter, children shrieking, and the clatter of dishes. I was cocooned in his arms, listening to both his heartbeat and the mayhem.

The glimpse of his towering frame disappeared as he settled into the office chair and tugged my lace underwear down my legs. His palms traveled up my thighs, gripping my ass with apossessiveness that sent shivers up my spine. I arched upward, my hands framing his face to draw his mouth closer to my center, desperate for contact. But Caden merely exhaled over my sensitive flesh.

When I tried lifting my hips to meet his mouth, his fingers pressed firmly into my sides, pinning me against the table.

“Caden,” I breathed, my thighs trembling. Frustration coursed through me. “Hurry.” I squirmed, aching for the friction I desperately needed. I was soaked, and all he had done was blow on me to ease the ache. The desperate need for him overwhelmed me.

But he denied me, taunting me with just his hot breath. No matter how much I demanded it, he played with me, using my body as he wished, though the raw hunger in his eyes promised it would be so good that I’d forget my own name.

My hands were now tangled in his hair, tugging desperately. He finally placed a soft kiss on my core, and I moaned, hoping the contact would never end. I gasped when his teeth came into play, nipping me between the gentle kisses.
