Jordan nodded. “You got that right.”

We sighed while Rose looked terrified by our conversation.

I brushed off her apprehension. “Trust me, you’ll be fine. You get used to it.”

Secretly, I loved that the kids were growing up together, and Rose was about to add to the pot.

“Are you worried about leaving her when you go back to work?” she asked.

Damon was unhappy that I was cutting my maternity leave short. But there was no way I could sit idly by while he had all the fun. And by fun, I meant work. In the end, we came up with a compromise.

“I don’t have to. Damon just built a daycare in the office.”

Rose’s mouth dropped. “Is that allowed?”

I shrugged. “Good thing we are the bosses.”

“That’s not a bad idea.”

She thoughtfully looked out the window and into the courtyard, where Caden was talking to the rest of the men. The wheels were turning in her head, and she was planning on making him put a daycare in their lab. He would probably insist on a nanny so he could have Rose all to himself during the day. Unfortunately for him, my cousin was no longer the same timid woman. She went toe to toe with her scary husband and stood her ground.

Mom took Arya while I changed back into my dress, then ushered us outside. It was time. Our husbands were already in the courtyard, enjoying a ‘manly’ drink—hot chocolate with booze.

I tilted my head when I saw Amelie amongst the guests, sitting next to a man who wasnotthe college boyfriend she had married. In fact, he looked like Caden’s friend—Kai—the man we met on the boat.

Interesting.

I invited her out of courtesy to Rose, not expecting her to attend. The rest of the guests included cousins, my grandparents, and other family members. Unfortunately, I also had to invite Mom’s narcissistic brother, who was making a waiter hold a compact mirror while he redid his hair.

Some things never changed.

Well, one thing changed. Zane was walking me down the aisle.

If anyone had told me a few years ago that I would agree to Zane walking me down the aisle, I would have laughed at them. But things were different now.

I placed my hand around his arm and saw Mom wiping away a tear at the end of the aisle.

Over the last year, my husband had fixed everything in my life, including my relationship with my biological father. Zane’s undying devotion to Mom helped matters, and I realized he was trying to turn over a new leaf for her sake.

Though he was only forty, Zane retired and gave me access to his massive wealth to invest in as I saw fit. The effort counteracted some of the previous damage he inflicted. He had a sharp mind, and I even sought him out for counsel. After all, Zane started with nothing and had conquered the world. No ordinary man could accomplish such a feat. It helped that he hadn’t blackmailed me this year. It was almost enough to respect him.

Baby steps.

I didn’t hate my new relationship with Zane, especially since he never tried to step in as my father. At the thought, I touched the tattoos on the back of my neck. Damon wanted us to wait until after Arya’s birth for our annual tattoo, marking the fifth one we had gotten together. Papa would have loved to be here today, and while I missed the shit out of him, I knew he wouldn’t resent my budding relationship with Zane. If anything, he would have been happy for me.

“Are you sure you want to marry him?” Zane asked in his baritone voice.

I raised my brows. “I thought you liked Damon.”

“You can do better,” he said indifferently.

I rolled my eyes. “Is this your father-of-the-bride speech, where you tell me it’s my last chance to run? News flash. We’re already married.”

The guests stood to greet the ‘bride,’ but Zane was in no rush to walk me down the aisle. “Never too late to rectify old mistakes.”

“What’re you talking about?”

He looked at me, almost somber under the moonlight. “No man will ever be good enough for you. I needed you to know that.”
