Mine, my beast grumbles, and I nod, completely in agreement with the monster.
Elias’s eyebrows shoot up, then his face softens as he looks at me, then back at my stash.
Not even subtle about it, I slide over, setting my hand on the table, using my arm to block his view of my prize.
Instead of being intimidated, his mouth twitches, which only makes me scowl harder. “Did you want something?”
A smile crosses his face, then a spark of something dangerous enters his green eyes until they shimmer with gold. “I might ask you the same thing since you’re the one who entered my domain.”
I could only blink at him in confusion. When I glance around the library once more, madness fades, and a flush of heat warms my cheeks. I straighten abruptly, tugging down my sweater, then look at the books with longing before I shutter my expression and turn away, feeling like I’m giving up my babies by leaving them behind. “Oh, umm….”
My brain goes completely blank.
I can’t think of anything to say.
Act casual.
So, I smile up at him, the stretch of my lips feeling unnatural, and I bat my lashes in a way I’ve seen others do when trying to distract a man. “I, um, I’m just browsing.”
Elias snorts, not believing my excuse for a second. I mentally roll my eyes at myself, then drop my arm, and let my smile bleed away. When he casually stalks closer, I stiffen.
Like a lion stretching, he rests his hands on the table on either side of me, blocking my escape. My breath catches, and I’m slightly horrified to realize my gasp is more because of excitement than fear.
Though self-preservation urges me to knee him in the balls and run, my beast revels in his attention, the unusual reaction almost paralyzing. My breathing halts when he leans in closer, and I can’t stop the tremor that shakes me down to my bones.
I should be horrified by the way my body submits to him.
Fuck…Iamhorrified.
But a stab of curiosity makes me hesitate, and my beast suffocates my unease like the psycho she is.
Elias inhales deeply, lightly brushing his cheek along the side of my neck. A slight rumble vibrates in his chest, and damn if my body doesn’t simply melt. My brain turns foggy, my worries vanishing.
I don’t feel any fear when the male steps into my space.
No sense of danger.
Instead, it’s a struggle not to wrap myself around him and purr in contentment.
But I don’t do any of that.
I have control.
I decide who’s allowed to touch me.
But my prepared speech vanishes when he speaks in a low, husky voice that turns my blood molten.
Before meeting the men who claim to be my mates, I paid no attention to appearances. Everyone is judged by the threat they posed.
I’ve never been sexually attracted to anyone.
Never even noticed other people.
Not until these three men.
I feel overwhelmed and out of my depth.
“You are welcome to plunder my possessions at any time. Whatever is mine, is yours.” He leans back, his green eyes hooded as he pins me under his gaze. “My shirt looks better on you, anyway.”
