Dariel still held Godwin’s heart as it reached its limit.

Athens sunk down harder, feeding deeper from the artery.

“Beautiful.” Dariel thought he heard Godwin stutter.

It was impossible for Dariel to hold down his own hunger much longer, becoming aware of every vein and artery inside Godwin’s body as he slipped himself out and thrust in one last time before biting down into the side of Godwin’s shoulder.

‘We can’t make a habit of this.’

‘We won’t.’

They fed in sensual bliss. Entwining their fingers under Godwin’s right arm as the man between them shuddered and allowed every muscle in his body to relax.

‘So sweet.’

‘We should stop soon.’

‘He tastes so much better than I expected.’

‘Athens… we need to…’

Neither of them stopped, Godwin’s heart fluttering and slowing a little as they began to let their hunger fully take them over, his blood sliding down their throats, warming their bellies.

“WAIT!” It was Godwin, jerking strong enough to knock Dariel’s mouth away. Athens followed suit, pulling back, eyes a carmine red with blood smothered over his lips.

Godwin held his hands up in surrender, then pushed himself up to a sitting position. Dariel shook his head a few times, trying to return to normal. The remnants of blood coating his own lips.

“Please. I… I don’t want it… not yet.”

Dariel couldn’t find the words, but as a bright red smile widened on Athens’ face, it all fell into place.

This was his plan all along.

“I know you don’t want it,” Athens said, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand, painting the rose on his wrist.

You took enough to make him want to stop. Let him make the decision,Dariel thought.

“What?” Godwin sounded delirious, which made sense, they’d taken quite a bit from him.

“You don’t want to die, you never did. We were never going to…” Athens reassured the human.

“You weren’t?” Godwin’s eyelids rippled, sleep threatening to take over.

“Not after knowing you for more than thirty seconds. We could never do that.”

“But my memories… I…”

“Your memories are your memories. We’re not touching your mind,” Dariel added.

Godwin sunk back, flopping his head to the side in exhaustion. “Oh… oh.” He closed his eyes, his heartbeat steady.

Athens looked to Dariel briefly before they both turned their full attention to Godwin.

“You should probably rest now, darling, we’ll be here in the morning.” Athens stroked Godwin’s forehead, pressing his fingers to his brow, and allowing the man to drift off soundlessly, covering him in his green robe.

“Will he be okay? We drank a lot.”

“He’s fine, we’ll keep checking in. He’ll be out for a good few hours though.”
