That was the exact moment I realized I had a big thing for bare shoulders. Who knew.
“S’not gonna work if you don’ c’mere.”
“That’s probably for the best,” I said, even though I didn’t know what she was talking about.
Alexis sighed heavily, like I was being difficult. “You’re supposed to c’mere so I can seduce you.”
It took everything I had in me not to laugh.
“Consider me seduced, Alexis,” I told her sincerely.
“You’re not seduced,” she argued.
“Oh, but I am,” I assured her.
She cocked her head. “Then why do we still have our clothes on?”
Ah, a question for the ages.
“Because I rather enjoy having my head attached to the rest of my body. It’s served me well so far.” And also, morals. Pesky little things.
She blinked.
I couldn’t hold back the laugh this time. “Can I please drive you home now?”
She shook her head. “We’re not done yet.”
“Can the rest of it wait until you’re sober and it’s not the middle of the night?”
Another shake of her head.
Perfect.
I sighed and leaned a shoulder against the doorframe. “I’ll make you a deal. We can talk, but you’ll have to come to the living room, drink some water, and eat something.”
Anything to get her off my bed and out of the bedroom.
Another lush pout.
The girl was temptation personified.
“I’ll make you a PB and J,” I tried. My specialty. Also one of the few dishes I knew how to make properly. My mother’s professional cooking skills were not hereditary. Unfortunately.
She considered it. “With cinnamon?”
“That’s the only correct way to do it, so yeah.”
She beamed like I’d offered her the world itself, then bounced out of the bed.
I followed her out, shutting the door behind me. Hopefully, she’d forget the bedroom was there and not wander back into it.
“So, Pri’s birthday party was tonight, then?”
“Mmm.” I’d never seen someone hop on a stool with as much elegance and poise as Alexis did just then. Drunk or sober.
I placed a tall glass of water in front of her and started to gather ingredients. “Had a good time?”
“Yeah,andI had a big relevation.”
