“A what?”

“Arelevation,” she said again, slower this time.

“Ah. I thought maybe you meant to say revelation.”

“No.”

“That’s my mistake.”

“S’okay, that’s a hard world.”

I was grinning so wide my cheeks were starting to hurt. “And can you share what this ‘big relevation’ of yours was?”

“Sì.” She scooched to the edge of her stool, folded arms placed on the counter. “You jus’ gotta go for it.”

The toaster dinged.

“For what?”

“Things. You just gotta go get ’em.”

“Brilliant.”

“I know!”

I chuckled, spreading a thin layer of (yellow) butter across whole-wheat toast.

“It’s why I’m here,” Alexis continued. “Tonight’s the night I seduce you, Joel Bennett. I’mma jus’ go for it. You. I’mma jus’ go get you.”

I pinched my lips together. I’d be impressed if she wasn’t passed out by the end of this hour. “I’ve been warned.”

She clucked her pink tongue. “You don’ believe me.”

“Sure I do.” I slapped the two sides of the peanut butter and jelly sandwich together, cut it in half, and slid the plate toward her. “You should probably eat first, though. Build up some of that seduction strength.”

Her eyes narrowed.

I laughed. “C’mon, Lex. Eat.”

Alexis frowned down at the sandwich. “You never take me seriously,” she mumbled under her breath.

“Maybe not when you’re drunk,” I admitted.

“I’m not even that drunk.”

Every single word in that sentence came out slurred and slow and sticky.

I picked up half of the sandwich and bit into it. It took less than three seconds for her to do the same. And less than three seconds afterthatfor a large goop of strawberry jelly to ooze out the bottom of her sandwich and land right onto the soft curve of her cleavage.

She didn’t notice.

“Uh… Lex?”

“Mmm?”

“You got a little…” I did a flapping motion thing at my own chest, like some brain-dead Neanderthal.

She blinked at me.
