I’d never felt more at home than I had since walking into the cabin, and that had nothing to do with his decorating expertise and everything to do with him. But I might have a freakout or two along the way, especially if I met a unicorn.
We smiled at one another, and on an impulse, I took a few steps backward, grabbed a handful of snow, and tossed it at my mate. It hit him in the chest, and his eyes lit up.
“You didn’t just do that.” He brushed the snow off his chest. “You’re going to regret that.”
Making a mistake with a handful of snow was something I’d live with, but the decision I made about our mating was a done deal, and I’d never rue that.
But as I was considering being mated to a reindeer shifter, a snowball whizzed past my head.
“Hey, I thought shifters had great reflexes. How come you missed me?” I jiggled my butt.
“That was a warning shot, and because you’re at a disadvantage with your ankle.”
I tossed another snowball at his head, and he hit my shoulder with his second one.
It was war, and I hopped and limped, trying to avoid his accurate throws, while tossing snow at him and hoping it made contact. Ambrose charged at me, and I squealed, preparing to be tackled and hoping my ankle didn’t break. But my feet hit a patch of ice, and I fell backward toward a snowdrift.
My arms flailed, but strong hands caught me, and we toppled over together into the soft snow.
“Gotcha.” His face was inches from mine, and though my butt was freezing, there was nowhere else I wanted to be.
Our hair was covered in snow, and I brushed some off his cheek.
“I’d like to kiss you if I may.”
“You absolutely may, and if you don’t, I will.”
His kiss was gentle, as if he didn’t want to hurt me. One hand cupped my face as he pressed against me and nibbled my bottom lip. I closed my eyes, enjoying his breath billowing over me andhow his nose tucked in beside mine as if that was where it was supposed to be.
We pulled apart, and I regretted it, wanting our tongues to lash one another.
“Let’s continue this inside.”

AMBROSE
One taste of his lips, and I was lost. I couldn’t get enough. My reindeer agreed.
Mark.
Mark.
Mark.He insisted over, and over again to the point of distraction.
I will if you shut up. Let me focus on our mate.In the past, my beast and I had always had such a great relationship, but ever since Wyndham came into town, he was off kilter. He’d be back to his normal self once we marked our mate, but that didn’t mean I was willing to rush it.
“Cold,” Wyndham mumbled against my lips.
Standing out in the snow was full-on romantic in the movies, but in real life, it was impractical at best. And here I was, letting my injured mate stand out here when there was a warm bed inside waiting for us.
I scooped him up and carried him into the cabin. He was wearing too many clothes. We both were, but him, especially. We didn’t just have pajamas on or jeans. Nope. Winter gear it was, and it all had to go.
We divested ourselves of all garments. We weren’t playing around. There was no sexy, slow reveal. We could do that another time. Right now was about being able to worship his body, and that required removing all the obstacles between us. We left everything in a pile by the door to be dealt with later.
The second the last item hit the pile, he slammed his lips against mine, kissing me like if he didn’t, he wouldn’t be able to survive another second. He held the back of my head, holding me there as if fearing I’d leave. If I’d had a speck of worry that he wasn’t as into me as I was into him, that would have been long gone with his possessiveness.
He was so alpha. There was something incredibly alluring about an omega who had that side of themselves. I’d never been so turned on in my entire life.
