“What the fuck do you mean it’s not like that?”

“I didn’t know you or anything, and honestly, you were just in my way. I was freaked out and scared. I dropped it, and it fell into your bag by accident.”

“So there’s no relationship between you going there on Fields’ behalf.”

“Well, I can’t say that’s not true.” I’m starting to get really annoyed with the way he’s skirting around my questions.

“What do you mean? He sent you there?”

“Yes. He wanted me to prove myself to his friends, and then he’d protect my sister. I already told him no the first time he approached me, but then he threatened to hurt her and her dreams, so I caved.” Fields makes me sick, and I’m going to destroy him with pleasure. The twisted bastard was going to turn this kid into a thug just to get a piece of ass when he was already married.

“Who is that woman you were with?” I ask.

“I don’t know; he just introduced her as May.” The name rings a bell, but I don’t know from where.

“That fucker was playing you and your sister against each other. He’s a married man, kid. He probably planned to turn you into one of his drug mules and your sister into a prostitute.”

“What? I’ll kill that bastard.” He punches the wall like an overheated dumbass, and I know he’s fucked it up.

“Damn it,” my father grumbles.

“Calm your ass down. How much damage did you do?”

“Your wall is fine,” he grunts, holding his hand in pain.

“I’m not worried about the wall. Your hand? Is it fucking broken?”

“No, but it hurts like a son of a bitch,” he complains, shaking it off.

“Well, that’ll teach you to behave. Don’t keep hurting yourself, or your sister will think I had something to do with it.”

“What are we going to do about that piece of shit?”

“You’re not going to do anything about him.” I point to my father and myself. “We’ll deal with him when it’s time, because no one does anything to hurt Angel. Besides, you’re not up to the task yet, kid. It takes years. Behave tonight, and my men will take you to buy a present for your sister legally and get you some new clothes. I don’t want her to be disappointed. Besides, I can’t have my brother-in-law looking like shit at my wedding.”

His mouth falls open.

“A Christmas wedding,” I say. “The house is already being prepared for our special day.”

“He’s only been here since last night.” My father is just as surprised as Noah. I can’t blame him because it’s a shock to me, but if I put it off, someone will try to stop me.

“I know. It’s the holiday season, Father. It’s amazing how many decorators are done and ready for a last-minute project for the right price.” I smirk and give him a wink. “Now, it’s time to go. You can rest because I need to wine and dine your enchanting sister.” I leave him there, and my father and I head back to the golf cart. “Son, you are bold as brass.”

“He’s a kid. It’s not that bold.”

“I’m talking about the rapid marriage. Just days ago you were against marriage, and now you’re getting married like it’s no big deal.”

“Are you trying to talk me out of it?”

“Only if you’re not sure.”

“I’m sure. I promise you that I am.” I’m not positive about why I’m so prepared to marry Angel, but I have no reservations about the wedding.

“Fine. So tell me about this Fields fuck from the start.” I break down my connections and the situation that led me to yesterday. It’s a long talk that forces us to stop briefly in the lower level before we enter the house.

“Sorry to take so long, but we’re back, ladies,” my father says as we step into the parlor.

“You two were gone a long time. Everything well, my dear?” my mother asks.
