“That’s good. Let’s keep it that way.” God, I want Torcello’s head on a fucking silver platter. No, I just want him dead and buried. He has to pay. His words alone are going to get him done and dusted. He wants my woman to be a worker in hiswhorehouse. I know the services he offers. We all know, but I had no idea that he was throwing my woman in as an option.
Has Georgie picked women from my office before? I really need my employee list. Are there other women missing? Has Fields lured others? Was this May woman another victim, or an accomplice? I have no idea, but I need to know fast.
I exit my office, and there she is. All I want to do is encase her in protective…I don’t fucking know, something…glass. I have to shield her from that bastard, from anything that might harm her, but I know it isn’t smart to cage her.
“Did I do something wrong?”
“No, why?”
“You look angry.”
“No, but we need to talk.”
“Now that I don’t like. It’s never a good thing when someone says that.”
“It’s not, Amore.”
“Please tell me something didn’t happen to my brother.”
“Your brother is fine. Being annoying, but fine.”
“When can I see him?”
“Christmas, like I promised, when we get married, but there is something else.”
“Oh.” I take her hand and sit her down on the sofa.
“Please tell me what’s wrong. Is he going to jail?”
“No, baby.”
“I can’t see anything else that would bother me…except my house.” Her mouth falls open. “Oh, no. Oh, no.”
“Someone broke in, and it looks like they wrecked the place.”
“What? They robbed me?”
“I don’t know. Sammy went over there to meet the maid who was going to clean, and the door was busted open.”
“I need to know.”
“I want to take you, but I believe it’s too dangerous.”
“Too dangerous? You don’t think local people knew we weren’t there, do you?”
“No. Out of all the houses, yours is in the middle of the block. You were gone for a day, and it wasn’t planned. Someone would have had to know that you weren’t there. Besides, I went there the day before.”
“So it was Tony?”
“Probably, or someone he sent to do his dirty work. He’s not willing to get caught in the act.”
“I need to know what was taken or what was ruined.”
“We can go now, but you have to do everything I say. Remember, you follow my lead and stay close to me. Understood?”
“Of course. You’re the boss.”
