We pull up outside one of my companies, and all of a sudden Angel freezes, looking nervous and uncomfortable. “Something wrong?”
“No, nothing’s wrong.”
I know she’s lying, but I hoped that she’d tell me the truth about what happened with Cochran. It’s not as if I got the information from him since he only returned today. This visit has a dual purpose. One is to oversee the problems, and the other is to figure out why my wife was really fired. “I can just wait in the car if you’d like.”
I know she wasn’t guilty of spying and stealing corporate information like Cochran claimed, but she never told me about her job. “The hell you will; I have enemies everywhere, and you know it. Come on.”
My security opens the door, and then I address my driver, “Marco, keep an eye on things out here for any problems.”
“Yes, sir.” I take her by the hand and lead her inside. The head of security notices me and greets me with a, “Good morning, sir,” but it’s the next part that takes me by surprise.
“Good morning, Miss Scott. When you said you were contacting the boss, I didn’t realize you were going to the top.”
“Contacting the boss?” I question.
“Um. Yeah.” She clamps her lips shut. Is this because Cochran fired her?
“Oh, no. I’ve said something I shouldn’t have,” the smart man utters.
“No, it seems someone hasn’t told me something that they should have. Care to explain this something to me, Miss Scott?”
“I didn’t realize I was back to Miss Scott.” She crosses her arms in the way that always amplifies her chest, arousingme insanely. Even with her coat mostly closed, she looks sexy as hell. I’m trying to get to the bottom of this, but it’s hard when I’m always hard around her.
“You’re about to get spanked, little girl. Didn’t we discuss this before we got in here?”
“Fine. If you want to be difficult, maybe we should talk about this somewhere a little more private.”
I drag her to the security office. “Out,” I holler. Everyone scrams before they know what to do with themselves.
“Damn, they are all frightened of you.” She shakes her head like this is a surprise.
“Yes, you seem to be under the impression that I’m not dangerous.”
“Oh, no, I know you’re dangerous, Luca. There is no doubt about that, but you want to put a baby inside me. Hard to kill me like that, and I behave so you can’t break my heart by hurting my brother.” Of course, because that’s the only person she cares for. She barely tolerates me. She might love that I fuck her brains out every day, but my wife doesn’t love me. And even though I’ve fallen in love with her, she can’t love me back. I ruined that shit when I held that piece-of-shit little brother of hers hostage.
“I was fired from here. For being a minute late.”
“A minute late?” I know that he used an excuse to fire her, but I want to hear it from her mouth.
“Don’t act like I’m lying, because that’s the truth, or at least that’s what the bastard fired me for, but then he pulled me into his office, and I recorded our conversation. He then took my phone and smashed it.”
“Are you serious? Who was the son of a bitch?”
“Mr. Cochran,” she answers.
“Okay.”
“I was very upset. Once I got a new phone, Tony called me and invited me to dinner, and that’s when I told him about it. That was when he offered me a new job. Since I needed money with the holidays and my bills, I took it, and Tony took it as a chance to make his move on me.”
“So you two weren’t seeing each other before this?” That’s fucking good news to me. While she talks, I take a seat and scope out the customer service floor for that son of a bitch Cochran.
“No. We met, and he was trying to be supportive or at least act like he was, but I saw through it,” she scoffs.
I want to know exactly where he is because he is a dead fucking man. I know my beautiful wife isn’t lying to me. I can tell from the security guard’s face why she was afraid to come back here. She had no idea this is my company until that moment. He said she was going to the boss because she had a problem, and it wasn’t just because she got fired.
The bastard is grabbing his things as fast as he can, trying to make a quick exit like a dirty rat. Someone must have told him that Angel showed up with me, or he spotted us before we saw him. With Angel at my side, I’m sure word spread quickly.
“Baby, what did he say to you?”
