She glanced at my mouth like she was indirectly asking for a kiss but maybe feeling shy. Then bit her lower lip and ran her hands slowly up my abs to my chest. That was literally all it took.

A bolt of pleasure reverberated through my body.

I gripped Zoe’s hips and pulled her closer, wanting nothing more than my lips on hers. And when she moaned into my mouth and took control of the kiss, I completely lost it. More urge and raw desire tore through my body as I deepened the kiss, frustrated by not being able to have her close enough. It was as if we had both been holding in all these emotions and desires, but then, somehow, inadvertently, the floodgates had been opened, allowing them all to spill out.

I could’ve kissed her all night.

“Looks like somebody is kissing up a storm, but be careful!” Hank said. “Back when I was a young stud, and we were dating, I strained my tongue from overexertion. Remember that, my love?”

“You never forget when your boyfriend tries to give you a tonsillectomy in the McDonald’s parking lot,” Harmony said.

I groaned and reluctantly pulled away from the delectable kiss, trying my best not to glare at Hank in his Budweiser swim trunks.

“Good times,” he said. “My doctor also said that saliva has substances that fight bacteria and fungi, so that deep kissing you both were partaking in increases the flow of saliva, which helps keep the mouth and gums healthy.” He gave me two thumbs up. “Good job!”

I liked Hank, but he kept babbling like he didn’t have a shut-off valve. I was probably overreacting, but he’d interrupted a very intimate moment that I’d been enjoying tremendously.

Harmony, on the other hand—in her pizza-slice-themed swimsuit—had a guilty and knowing expression on her face, like she was reconsidering getting in.

I looked up to the sky to wish upon another star that they would change their mind about joining us. I had all my fingers and toes crossed to the point of almost getting a cramp. Too bad the woman of my desires betrayed me.

“Come on in. The water is delightful,” Zoe said, smiling awkwardly at them as she regained her composure and straightened out her hair.

“Don’t mind if we do!” Hank said, splashing into the hot tub next to Zoe.

Harmony got in next, but things only got worse when Jeremy arrived a few seconds later.

“What a beautiful evening!” he said, carefully stepping into the hot tub and sitting next to Harmony.

I gritted my teeth and tried to keep my cool. “It sure is.”

“What's going on, everyone?” Rolando said, next to get in with Savannah right by his side. “What a treat that we can all be together under the stars. Betsy and Marty are the only ones missing.”

Wrong, Rolando. You are so very wrong.

“Well, would you look at this!” Marty said, approaching the hot tub in his bright yellow swim trunks, with Betsy right by his side. “Isn’t it serendipitous that we all ended this wonderful day in the hot tub? We are just one big, happy family.”

His definition of happy was just a tad bit different from mine in this context.

At least Hank had settled down and was relaxing quietly in the water.

“I wonder if I should wax my back. Lucas’s back is just so smooth,” he said to no one in particular.

Zoe obviously sensed my frustrated state when she scooted closer, grabbed my hand under the water, and rested it on top of her thigh, holding on to it.

I leaned closer and whispered to her, “To be continued?”

Zoe smiled and leaned my way, whispering back, “Definitely.”

And suddenly, all was right in the world again.

ZOE

A long line was already forming in front of my food truck for day two of Big Bang Big Bear, as the same band from yesterday kicked off the festival with their version of “Happy” by Pharrell Williams.

I couldn’t describe all the emotions running through me, although happiness and gratitude were certainly among them. Surprise would be another big one, considering what had happened last night with Lucas.
