Then Aaron’s gaze meets mine and a confident smile spreads on his face. But I don’t smile back, I’m too busy doubting myself, hating him for something he is allowed to do.He can fuck whoever he wants, I don’t care.I’m just his possession for the week, that’s it.
Barbie notices that his attention fires back on me and aces up her game. She pretends to laughs, practically giving herself to him in front of his whole crew. Amber is sending a message, claiming her territory, displaying her true colors. Aaron analyzes me, but I won’t give him the satisfaction to show my jealousy, even if I’m struggling to hide it. We maintain an eye contact, until he drifts his eyes to Barbie, giving her exactly what she desires—his attention.
She’s like a tarantula, spreading her venom, seeking her next meal. I have a dark storm of emotions within me filled with doubts. Am I burning myself willingly? My stomach turns instantly, a pain in my chest, seeing Aaron busy with the court of women surrounding him. Women who believe by being submissive to him, they’ll be unforgettable. But we can only be insignificant to a man like Wolf. This is all a dream, a fantasy happening in my head. Nothing of this is real. Not our date. Not this Grand Prix. I’m just part of his game, and I surely don’t want to race against all the women battling for the pole position to be in his bed.
“Hi, sexy. Are you looking for something?” a husky voice interrupts my thoughts behind me.
I turn around to see…
Louis Harmil.Aaron’s number one competitor and a man-whore. He is known as the man who has it all. The perfect son, the perfect racing driver, and the perfect amount of money. Louis is chewing his gum, his sunglasses on, wearing his white racing suit. If Aaron is the alpha, Louis is the Golden Boy. He tangles his hand into his messy blond hair before pulling his sunglasses off, giving me a glimpse of his green piercing eyes. He is not very tall, probably five-foot-eight, but he has a certain charisma. He is less good looking than Aaron, but something tells me he has no problem getting women to fall at his feet.
“I’m just waiting for someone.”
I search for Aaron’s gaze but he is busy talking with his team—and still surrounded by the horde of tarantulas. The grinding sounds of the motors are exploding around us, making my heart race. The mechanics are working on the cars, the reporters are already here, and I… have no idea what I am doing here. I need to remind myself that Aaron is wrong for me. He has nothing to give.Nothing but a heartbreak. But why is my heart beating so fast? Why do I feel that miserable? Why can’t she stop flirting with him!
“I see. You are with Aaron. He seems… busy,” Louis replies, noticing the mask of jealousy growing on my face.Yeah, right, busy.I usually hide my emotions very well, but with Aaron, I feel so transparent. I feel like the wall I’ve built for years to protect myself is silently falling into aches.I feel vulnerable. “So, you’re his new girl,” Golden Boy adds, seeing I’m not paying attention to him—a thing he probably isn’t used to.
“And you are Louis Harmil.” My lips curve into an amused smile.
“So, you do know my name.” He raises his eyebrow cockily and smirks in a way that makes me understand he is flirting with me. “You don’t have to worry about her,” he says, pointing at the Barbie tarantula near Aaron’s garage. “Amber is a bit offensive, but she’s not that bad.”
“I’m not worried,” I answer in a dry tone, my voice betraying my insecurities.
“Be careful.” He puts his hand on my back while guiding me closer to his garage and away from the pit lane as a car in testing approaches us.
I quickly remove his hand from my lower back and glance at the ground in confusion, not knowing how to act with him. “I’m fine.” I readjust my hair behind my ear.
“He shouldn’t have left you alone in the pit.” He stares at Aaron, who is busy with his team. Golden Boy’s attention fires back at me as he passes his fingers through his blond hair. “At least, it’s giving me the opportunity to get to know you.” He darts his tongue out of his mouth seductively, a thing that usually turns me on when Wolf does it, but with him… nothing. Which proves that Wolf is my Achilles’ heel.
“Louis. I’m flattered, but I have no interest in you.”
He nods, trying to hide his disappointment with a seductive smile. “You can’t blame a man for trying.”
“I believe you aren’t lacking women in your circle.” I point out the obvious fact to him as I finally detached my focus from Aaron to peer at Louis, noticing he has a certain charm. He and Aaron could be similar somehow. Both of them are flirtatious, competitive, and used to getting what they want. But Louis is more welcoming than Aaron. He has less darkness and doesn’t have the same aura. Aaron’s screams of alpha vibes and power. Louis is more of a Hollywood celebrity type.
“We aren’t. But I’m a commitment kind of guy, when I find the one.” He smiles while looking at his team prepping his car.
“I doubt that.” I snort.
He chuckles, not offended. “I can see what Aaron sees in you. You’re direct.” He winks at me in a playful way. I raise my eyebrow, waiting for a cheesy line, but instead, we both laugh. I end up enjoying his company more than I thought I would.
“Aaron and I used to be friends. I know him better than anyone else.”
My jaw drops in surprise. “I can’t picture you as friends.” Probably because they both compete for the same spot.
“There are a lot of things you probably don’t know about him.” He snorts, speaking to himself. I start tensing. He is right. I know nothing about Aaron. He is a mystery. A mystery I made a deal with blindly. How many secrets does he have?
Louis notices my reaction. “I’m sorry, I guess he’s secretive with everyone.”
And here is the reminder of how I shouldn’t get involved with Aaron, or else I’ll end up being one more trophy he claimed. My thoughts are interrupted when I feel a strong arm capturing my waist from behind. I don’t need to turn around, I know who it is. I recognize his woody scent. He is the man who makes my heart races. The man I used as an escape. The man who will be my downfall.Aaron LeBeau.
“Louis.” Aaron’s eyes narrow at Louis, a muscle twitching in his jaw. He is squeezing my waist harder, almost hurting me without realizing it.
“Aaron, we were just talking about you.” Louis’ lips curve into a polite smile, even though I can tell he is as tense as Aaron.
The two men are caught in a staring contest. A car testing on the track passes near us, leaving behind it the rough sounds of the engine amplifying this warfare. There is more than a competitive rivalry, there is a dark secret linking them. In spite of their apparent calm, it’s evident that at any moment the situation can spiral out of control. A house team passes near us, people start hurrying around, but the two men keep on eying each other without blinking.
“Already trying to steal what’s mine, Louis?” Aaron attacks, as I witness the possessiveness in his voice.Mine? Like hell.
