“Understand what?”

“All of this.”

Two negatives make a positive

In the first nine minutes of the qualification race, I let my thoughts wander, obsessed with Wolf racing. He is powerful. Charismatic. Fearless. I spent the next nine minutes getting to know Monica. I understand why she and Aaron are friends—she’s funny, kind, and strong-minded. The qualification race ends with Aaron claiming the pole position for tomorrow’s race. The commentators seem impressed by his comeback, the odds are in his favor for the championship.

A couple minutes later, Wolf is laughing with Thomas as his crew is taking care of his car. When the two men finally notice us, Thomas hugs Monica and me before leaving. Aaron beholds my gaze, and flashes a self-assured grin that makes my cheeks flush as red as his racing suit.

“Ma belle.” Two words. I only need two words to make my heart shiver.

We continue staring into each other’s eyes, ignoring the agitation around us. I attract Wolf’s attention on my lower lip, biting it. I can feel it, he is still craving me. He may be the hunter, but I’m a doe fully willing to be chased.

“Well, if anyone is looking for me, I’ll be… somewhere else,” Monica adds, glancing at the both of us with a wicked smile stretching on her face before leaving to talk with Thomas.

“Monica seems to like you. I have no idea how you won her over, if I’m being honest. She never liked a girl before.” Aaron reduces the distance between us.

“I’m just being myself. She’s great. And she is also… gorgeous.” I tuck a strand of my hair behind my ear, looking at the floor.

“I guess she is.”Of course she is.“But not as much as you.”

I study him, looking for the truth. “You don’t have to lie, Aaron. You already had me—we are past the lies of a first date.”

His scorching stare hits me as he furrows his brow. “I don’t lie, Elle.”

A man has never looked at me the way Aaron is. He has the gift to express his raw desire for me with such intensity that I feel glorified. Reborn into the type of woman I want to be. He creates new confidence in me, making me feel beautiful.

“Plus, you know you are my style.”

“And what’s your style, Mr. LeBeau?”

He approaches me, his eyes traveling the length of my body. “I believe you’ve already asked this question, but …Great legs, delicious mouth, beautiful eyes and smoking hot body.”

I push him away, laughing at the way he spoke those words. “Why do you have to make every word sound dirty?”

“It’s a gift.”

Thomas calls out to Aaron; they have to discuss the race strategy this afternoon. Monica comes back to us, giving me an I-know-you-like-him kind of look. She probably listened to our conversation.

“Elle and I are going to Luxure this afternoon,” she addresses Aaron before switching her attention back to me. “You’ll see, they have great clothes.”

From the look she’s giving me, I conclude I don’t have much choice in the matter. I bet she’s not a huge fan of my ripped jeans and my casual top. Aaron picks up his bag and opens his wallet while I’m joking with Monica about my fashion sense.

“My treat.” Aaron hands me his credit card, a proud smirk on his face. I scan him, shocked. How am I supposed to react? Is he trying to buy me? That’s what men with money usually do. I’m no trophy wife. I’m not that type of woman.

“No.” I snap at him.

“I insist.”

“I can’t. You are already paying for everything here. I won’t. I can pay for myself.” I push his credit card away.

“Elle, I have more money than I need. I’m not expecting anything.” He hands me back the credit card. “Plus, my net worth is five hundred million—”

“I don’t care how much money you have. I won’t take advantage of you,” I shout.

“For God’s sake, just accept it, Elle. I’m trying to do something nice!” His temper sparked with annoyance.

“No.”
