Chapter two
Olivia
“Fuck!”
My phone alarm is blaring, the smoke detector is wailing, and I throw open the bathroom door, my hair half-done as I sprint to the toaster.
Bread.
Stuckagain.
I yank the plug and grab a rag, frantically waving at the smoke alarm before darting back to the bathroom for my lip stain.
I’ll apply it in the ride share.
Damn it, I have to order a ride share.
Where the hell is my phone?
Bedroom.
I rush back, grab my heels, and slide them on, making my way to the bathroom.
Where’s my lip stain?
In my hand.
Got it.
What am I missing?
Phone!
I sprint back, grab it, and order the ride share.
Ten minutes. Damn it.
I check the time.I’m going to be late!
Ican’tbe late.
Not for this job interview. Not when Ineedthis job to afford my overpriced apartment in this shitty city that hates my guts.
I should move back home.
No.
Nope, Olivia, you willnotmove back home.
I grab my purse and head for the door, almost slamming straight into Broderick; my neighbor and the reason I even have this interview at Beaumont Enterprises in the first place.
His warm brown eyes meet mine, and he smirks.
“Running late again?” he teases.
I sigh, chuckling lightly, feeling the heat rush to my cheeks. Broderick’s gaze sweeps over me, just like he does almost every morning these past few months.
“You look good, Baker. Mr. Beaumont will definitely hire you—ifyou make it on time. Need a ride?”
