He smirked. “I like you dressed up. But I really like you happy. I haven’t seen performance Jeannie in so long. I want that glow back on you.”

“Thank you. I’ll think about it.” I kissed him again as his fingers tucked my hair behind my ears. “Whaddya want for dinner?”

Dylan’s expression went dazed. “You.”

I laughed. “I mean with calories. And you shouldn’t bend your knee yet.”

“Um, one, you can sit on my face right here and you probably have calories or something, and two, that lemon chicken thing you make.”

I blinked hard and shook my head. “Wow, that was two very different answers.”

“Well, I need to eat you more, and also I tried to make that chicken while you were gone and I fucking ruined it.”

“How did you ruin it?”

“The rice? And the chicken? I don’t know. It doesn’t make sense, J. I don’t know how it got messed up. But, who cares about that? Pants off, before the kids come home.”

I didn’t move, then squealed as he plunged his hand straight into my pants.

“You think I’m messing around just because I can’t chase you? Get your ass up here.”

Why the hell is PT a full time job

CHAPPY

Right?

“Jeannie, can I help at all?”

My darling wife had been a flurry of activity since she got the kids from school and came to pick me up from my training session. I was in my first full week of Operation: Knee Recovery. I still couldn’t drive, but I had PT sessions that lasted about the same as the kids’ school. Looking back, she probably hadn’t sat since she got me up for physical therapy that morning. I sat at our kitchen island with my leg stretched over the next two stools, the air filled with the pot roast she threw in the crockpot in the morning.

She had her headphones in, flipping through the kids’ school folders.

“J!” I shouted, clapping my hands.

“Hah?” She ripped one earbud out.

“Can I fill anything out? That’s one thing I can do.”

“Well, I need to look up a new doctor for the kids, and there’s a spot here where I have to fill in the doctor’s name. Grey and Alice both have field trips next week.”

“Can’t I do that?” I asked. “That’s desk work, right?”

She hesitated for a second, grabbing her water cup and taking a drag. “Uh, yeah, I guess so. You’ll have to check the insurance, though. We don’t have the new cards yet for the year, so you’ll have to look up our number.”

I nodded. “Alright. I got it.”

She sighed. “Yeah?”

“Yeah. Anything else I can do?”

“Maybe start with that. It’ll keep you busy for a while.” Jeannie peeked over the counter on her tiptoes. “How’s your swelling? You need a new ice pack?”
