I lost all sense of where we were, just me and him and everything we’d shared in the last eight years passing throughme. I was obscenely loud when I came, Dylan raising up to pull me into a kiss to shut me up.

“Fuck, Jeannie,” he whispered against my lips until he emptied himself inside me. He stroked my hair behind my ear. “I love you so much.”

“I love you too.”

That’s it? That’s all I get?

Good job?

Better

Jeannie was sprawledout on my chest, having a cat nap after our latest round of sex. She texted Andy that she needed the rest of the day off, like they hadn’t been doing just fine before she came home. I drifted in and out of sleep, enjoying the feeling of having J in my arms without the kids bugging us.

Since her parents were both out of the house, we showered together, which turned into more sex. Two more times, which I was damn proud of. I hadn’t seen that kind of performance since I turned thirty.

A knock at the door stiffened my whole body. “Um,” I started.

My cock and balls were just out to the air, spread eagle with an equally naked Jeanine splayed out on top of me.

“Jeannie, Andy said you were si—oh my god!” Jeanine’s mom had just peeked around the door, jostling a cup of tea in her hand. I jolted to try and cover my junk, waking Jeanine in the process. “Hello, Dylan,” she said from the other side of the door.

“Hi, Maureen.”

“It’s, ah, good to see you here? Um, we’ll grill out for dinner tonight, just come down whenever you’re . . . dressed?” Maureen was clearly snickering behind the door.

“Mom, get out!” Jeanine cried, sounding like a rebellious teenager.

“I made you a cup of tea since you’re sick,” she chuckled from the hallway. “I’ll just set it out here.”

“My god,” Jeanine groaned, sitting up and laughing. “Well, welcome home.”

“Can you pass the salad, Dylan?”Maureen asked.

I handed it her way, still struggling to make eye contact after she caught J and me in the nude.

“Are you missing a game today, Dyl?” her dad, Joe, asked.

“I am. Coach gave me a healthy scratch for today.”

Jeanine put her fork down. “Did you tell everyone what was going on?”

“Um, a few of the guys, yeah. They wanted to know why I had to leave early to get Bella,” I said, shrugging it off.

She looked worried, and I squeezed her knee under the table. “Leroy asked if I wanted Mara to reach out and check on you. I don’t think anyone was judging. I think they were more judging me.”

“Great, now all the Ohio wives will know I’m a head case too,” she grumbled.
