2. Have a Christmas movie marathon with kids’ movies and after they went to bed, grown-up movies

3. A spa day where I’d talked a few of the guys into sending their wives

4. Snow tubing with the kids

5. Dinner and her favorite Christmas musical, White Christmas, at the big theater in town

BONUS: Our first snow as a family?

Okay, I had no control over that last one, but we were far more likely to see snow in Columbus than we had been in Los Angeles.

I was bringing the magic back. Because somewhere between kids and hockey and the drumbeat of life, we’d lost it.

And hopefully, by the end of all this, Jeannie and I would feel like a team again. She’d fall back in love with me, with our life. And then, we could live happily ever after.

We were off to a good start with my “rescuing” her from her parents’ winery, but Jeanine deserved much more than that.

I bought a stationery set with a Santa theme so I could leave her a note every time part of the plan was coming up.

Also, to settle her planner mind, I wrote “The Plan” on the calendar for every day where she needed to make sure she left the schedule open.

So on the first morning I was back, I set out a note.

We’ll start the plan off close to home

Where I’ll be cooking at the stove

I’ve got dinner covered, baby

The meat will fall right off the bone (?)

Okay, I was working on the poetry part. But it would make her laugh and that was important.

I didn’t get to see her reaction, because she was already out taking the kids to school and then working a WAG volunteer event. I found the card carefully tucked back into its envelope on her desk space.

There was a part of me that needed validation from her. I wanted to know she was all in and liked my ideas. So I texted her, because you can’t expect what you want without communicating what you want.

Can’t wait to spoil you rotten tonight

I didn’t hear back from her until after I got out of practice.

Jeannie

Had to pick Bella up from school. Stuffy nose and threw up

I groaned. Of course, one of our kids would get sick when I was trying to thrill my wife to make her love me again.

Oh no! A stomach bug and a cold?

Jeannie

Prob not. She always pukes when she gets a cold

Seriously?

Still, I went to the store to get all the supplies to wow Jeanine that night. I could just take over with the kids and feed Jeanine after bedtime. How hard could it be?

Can you get Grey and Al? There’s no way I can put B in the car
