“Am I alright, am I alright? Are you fucking kidding me. Our parents just saw your face in my pussy, Shawn. No, I’m not alright,” she shrieks, rushing to her suitcase.
Blowing out a breath, I stop her, pulling her against me. She wraps her arms around me, resting her cheek on my chest. I hold her tightly to me and kiss the top of her head. “It’s me they are pissed at Jana, not you. I’ll take care of this.” My chest hurts, and I need to take a few deep breaths, to talk around the pain. “This has been amazing, Jana. I never expected it, but holy fuck, I’m grateful for the way it worked out.”
“Shawn, stop,” she chokes out.
“I’ll never regret a thing, Jana,” I say, with my chest pains getting worse, I let go of her.
“Please, Shawn,” she cries out, knowing this is goodbye.
I can’t look back, I know it will destroy me. So, like the asshole I am, I leave and go get dressed.
Going out to the living room, I’m greeted by my father pacing and Susan still crying, sitting on the couch.
“You son of a bitch, it wasn’t bad enough you came back to destroy my life, but you had to take advantage of Jana. She’s a good girl, she’s your stepsister, for Christ’s sake,” he shouts.
“Don’t fucking talk to me about Jana. What we did, is between us,” I say, crossing my arms.
“No, you have destroyed me, but you won’t destroy her, or destroy this family.”
Laughing without humor, I shake my head. “I wouldn’t dream of destroying the perfect family you’ve gained, Jim.”
“Get the fuck out of this house. Donotshow your face around here again and if you so much as look in Jana’s direction, I will have you arrested for taking advantage of her,” he shouts, mimicking my position.
“No, stop,” Jana yells, wrapping her arms around me.
“Jana, get the hell away from him,” Susan cries out.
“All of you, shut the hell up. I’m not letting you treat Shawn like this. What we have is a mutual thing. He didn’t take advantage of me, not once. He woke me up, he showed me how much more exciting life can be,” Jana says.
“You have no fucking idea who he is, or what he’s capable of,” my father shouts.
“I do know him, I fucking love him.”
My body freezes, time stands still. My heart stops, as my body begs me to breathe. No, no fucking way can she love me.
Chapter Twelve
Jana
My heart pounds out of my chest, confessing out loud that I love him. It was impossible for me not to fall in love with him, regardless of how hard he tried pushing me away. I’m sure I just scared the shit out of him, but I believe he loves me too, he’s just too scared to admit it.
“Jana, you don’t love him. You’re confused, sweetheart,” my mom say, wiping her eyes.
“I’m not confused, Mom. I’ve never felt this way before.”
I wish Shawn would say something, anything at this point. He’s just standing there with his arms crossed, staring at Jim.
“He’s your stepbrother, it’s wrong,” my mom cries out.
“He’s using you, to get to me, Jana,” Jim hisses.
“You’re both wrong,” I say, shaking my head.
Fuck, why isn’t he saying anything?
“Shawn, why don’t you tell Jana, the real reason you’re here,” Jim says, lifting his graying eyebrow. Shawn doesn’t say a word, just stands there and my stomach swims with nerves. “Tell her you son of a bitch, tell her what a fucking coward you are.”
“I bought Jim’s company out from under him,” Shawn says through gritted teeth.
