“People get bored,” she shrugged. “Look are you gonna hang around here all day or what.”

“No,” I stood then. “I need to get up with someone about a certain wedding that is just a few days away.”

Anger crossed her face then.

She was beautiful smiling but she was a knock out angry. I pulled her chin up so that she was looking me in my eyes.

“I can’t wait to call you wife,” I dropped a kiss on her waiting mouth and she let me.

“Good girl, Kitten,” I whispered before strolling from the room.

“I hate you,” I heard her say loudly.

I didn’t care.

My next step was getting her married and then getting my hands on Judge Porter’s documents. Very shortly, I would have all that I desired.

CHAPTER17

Sage

Taking a deep breath, I watched as shadows danced all over the ceiling. Light was coming in and the tree in front of the window was throwing silhouettes all over the white walls of the ranch house. My phone gently buzzed beside my head.

You’re really doing this?

Silver was awake and texting me.

There was no way I was about to have this entire conversation over text. I hit the call button and it only rang for a moment.

“Yes, I’m really doing this.”

She gave a soft laugh. “Does this man even know what this means to marry you?”

“Probably not,” I said. “But…today is the day.”

“You’re getting married!?” Silver laughed again.

“Are you coming?”

“I wouldn’t miss this for the world,” she said and I knew she was smiling on the other end.

“Good, because I need my best…”

My words trail off because sounds have started to fill my ears. There’s a commotion outside of my bedroom door.

Finally it flings itself open and a gasp catches in my throat, all the long while Silver is still talking in my ear. My best friend is forgotten because the sight before me scares the hell out of me.

“Girl, what in the hell is going on over there?”

“Silver, I’ll call you back.”

I hang up on her and stare down a young face that looks a lot like my own. I can see Niki standing behind her, his eyes curiously taking in the scene.

“Khrys? What in the hell are you doing here?”

My sister is breathing hard and the jean jacket she wears has slipped off her shoulders revealing her toned brown skin. Her hair is braided and swinging as she comes further into the room.

“Me? What are you doing here? I’ve been calling, Sage! Why didn’t you tell me our father was dead?”
