“Something tells me you’ve done that,” I roll my eyes.

“Sage…”

“It’s fine…I just….”

“Don’t get jealous Kitten, your cream is the only cream I’m ever going to want ever again in this lifetime. I need to talk with her and then we can go.”

A huff escapes my lips. “This had better not take too long.”

“It won’t.”

Niki seems to know the way up the stairs of the Governor’s mansion well. I’m not a fan of the jealousy I feel bubbling up in my stomach. I’m not a fan of my husband disappearing around corridors to meet up with a woman who had fucked him either.

A deep breath enters my lungs and I eat another shrimp puff and grab another glass of champagne.

The violins are playing and a few men dare to ask me to dance but I don’t want too. After one song ends, I say fuck it and suck down the champagne.

“I’ll show that bitch a good little dog,” I whisper.

My feet carry me up the stairs and when no one moves to stop me, I wander the halls. Noise doesn’t seem to move on the top floor and it’s dimly lit. My ears are stretching for just a hint of anything and finally I hear voices as I get closer to what I assume are offices.

The door is ajar and I see them then.

They’re facing they door, and Niki has her pulled against him, whispering in her ear. Governor Davis has her neck bared to him, her eyes squeezed shut. Something hitches in my throat at seeing them this way. This shit looks way to intimate.

My cellphone goes off in the clutch, and it’s loud.

Niki looks up and we lock eyes.

“Sage!”

I’m running then. I feel something wet on my face and I know its tears but I have to get out of here. Men were all the same.

They were fucking monsters who would destroy any and everything in their path. I could hear Niki screaming after me as I flew through the crowd causing a commotion. People moved to get the hell out of my way. I didn’t stop until I was at the valet stand and snatching the keys to Niki’s Porsche.

Suddenly, I was Cinderella fleeing from the ball and it wasn’t even fucking midnight.

My breathing is just as erratic as my driving. My cellphone is still blowing up and I answer it to find Khrystina on the other end.

“Is everything okay? Is Nana…”

“No!” Khrystina says. “Some woman showed up here.”

“A woman?”

“Yes, she says you know her. She was yelling and screaming and Ivan told her to leave. She was saying they have her baby. That it’s your fault.”

“Carla?”

Khrystina gasps, “Yeah, that’s it.”

“Okay, I’m about fifteen minutes from the house.”

I end the call in time to see a deer standing in the road. My left foot hits the breaks with so much force, I just know I’ve crashed. The Porsche and a wet road seem to be the perfect makings of an accident.

Instead, the car stops on time and the deer scampers off. I let out a breath, and realize I need to slow down. My phone rings again and this time there’s a text message.

Sage, please help me.
