"And you think it's going to be easy? Nothing is final until the judge makes the decision," he pointed out.

"He gave me his word." That stopped the line of questioning. Finn had always proven himself to be a man of his word, a fact that did not escape anyone at that table.

"We cannot change your mind about this?" Her mother asked in a soothing tone. This was the very first time she found her mom’s tone to be soothing. She was shocked by it.

"No.”

Even if she was deliberately going against them for the first time in her life, there was a little girl inside who still loved her parents. One who wanted their love in return, wanted it so desperately that she was willing to do anything to get it. She needed to smother that inner child.

She looked down to find another slice of chocolate cake on her plate, refusing to pay attention to the heavy air of disappointment that clouded the room; she ate the cake in a haste and then quickly left her parent’s home to head to the Ritz. She needed a good night’s rest.

The darkness was inky black, with tongues of flames chasing away shadows in a dizzying dance. She had only a moment to register before she felt hands skim up her body.

They were hot and threatened to undo her with their slow pace.

"Please," she moaned into the darkness, begging these hands to stop their slow crawl and end her madness.

There was electricity in her veins and that slow arousal threatened to undo her.

"Please," the hands did not speed up their pace. They took their time to learn the hollows of her body, play on every sensitive spot, skim every stretch of skin except where she needed them to go.

"Please!" Was she begging for this mysterious touch to ravish her, or was she pleading for the delightful torture to stop?

Her lover shifted just enough for the play of light to catch his face. She would recognize that intense blue stare anywhere. The eyes then bled into black and the mop of hair on his head covered his face like a mask.

Kalilah woke up with a gasp.

"No!" One look assured her she was alone, and there was no lover lying in her bed.

She climbed out of bed and ambled into the ensuite bathroom to wash her face. She stood in front of the bathroom mirror and stared at herself for several minutes. The exotic dream now took on the likeness of a nightmare now that she was awake. How could she have dreamt of Finn? One day back, and he’d already wiggled his way into her subconscious.

She had always viewed her dreams as a refuge from reality for many years, and it stung that he had invaded it. And not only did he invade her mind; her body was still humming from the sensory overload the experience had hit her with. She could see the goosebumps on her skin.

Even now, her body strained to finish what had started when she slept.

The phone rang in the other room and she scrambled to catch it before it ended. Saved by the bell.

"Hello?"

The voice that was attached to the face that had invaded her dreams flooded the room.

"Hello Kalilah, how are you?"

“Finn? How did you get my number?”

“I have my ways. I was hoping to finalize a date and time for our first date,” he said.

“Ohh,” she replied.

“If you’re no longer interested...”

She cut in.

“I am always interested in getting my annulment.”

“Good. I was hoping you'd want to run away and join the circus with me?”
