“Since mom started this and her channel blew, it has been from one keto thing to another, she is always creating different recipes," Julia whispered into Finn’s ear, and he snorted.
“What are you to whispering about?”
“Nothing that would interest you,” Finn responded.
“Don’t think because you are modeling for magazines…”
“I am not modeling for magazines, mom, the magazines are doing a profile on young businessmen,” he said.
“I am glad you are living your dreams,” Lawrence said.
“I am not living my dreams,” Finn protested. His dreams included his wife, and since she was hell bent on being away from him, his dreams still hadn’t been actualized. He bit into the fat bomb with more force than necessary and was very surprised – it was delicious. He didn’t let his mom know that, either.
“Flying from province to province, and even internationally, in addition to having beautiful women throw themselves at you, seems like a dream to me. Miss me with the fake humility, bro. We love you, humble or proud,” said Justin.
“I still think you would be an asset to my chain of franchises, Finn. Leave real estate and let us put your business degree into better use,” he said. Everyone was silent, including his mom.
They’d had this same conversation many times before, and his response was always the same.
“I love what I do…”
“You love business, not real estate; you know how to create profit and seal deals. That is why I want you on my team. Think of everything we can achieve together as a family. We sent you to school to get a degree and use the degree to grow our business. We are glad that you have gained business experience working with Richard, but don’t you think it is time you come home?”
“Dad, Montréal is my home. Always has been.” Now that Kalilah was back, it would probably be his home for a while longer. His home would be wherever she was.
“Homes change.”
“Kalilah came back to Montréal…”
After several minutes of silence his mom finally said, “Really?” He looked at the rest of his family and no one seemed surprised by his admission.
“You all knew?” he asked.
“I saw Kaiya’s post on Instagram and I showed it to mom.” Julia told him.
“I didn’t know you kept in touch.” Finn said, seriously surprised.
“We don’t keep in touch, but we’re kind of family, so we follow each other on social media sites.”
“So, are you two finally going to work out your problems and resume your marriage?” asked his dad. Of course he’d assume that.
Finn cleared his throat and adjusted his position; he sat back in his chair.
“She wants to put an end to the marriage.”
“That’s understandable,” Justin said.
“Hush, Justin,” said Julia. “Finn still loves her, don’t you Finn?”
Lawrence gave a threatening stare to her younger children and then turned compassionate eyes unto her eldest son.
“How are you feeling about this?”
“I have no intentions of ending this marriage. I have waited for her for five years, and she strolls back into town and thinks that I’ll let all these years spent apart go down the drain over a stupid misunderstanding. Never. I know she still loves me, and even if she doesn’t, I have enough love for the both of us.”
“You’re still young, son, and have time to meet someone else and start anew. As much as I like the girl, I can’t forget that she left you without even a backward glance. I say divorce her and move on,” said Alexandre. Justin nodded his agreement, and Julia looked ready to oppose their dad.
Lawrence stood up and yelled, “Out! All of you out! I want to talk to my son without interference!”
