Finn hummed happily, leaning over to steal kisses from Kalilah for the fifth time within the space of three minutes as she gently nudged his head away.

“Eyes on the road, Sir, we have very important passenger to protect,” she teased. “I want a huge wedding this time,” she said, her apparent joy filling the moving vehicle.

“The first time around was small and impersonal; we have a lot to make up for,” he agreed.

“Kaiya wants to know what plans we have for the wedding.” Kalilah held up her phone to show off her chat with her sister. “She says anything less than magnanimous wouldn’t work for her, and I agree.” She wanted to show off their love to everyone.

Finn gave her hand a quick squeeze and returned his attention to the road.

“Anything you want, my love.”

“I'll never tire of hearing that.”

“That you have me completely in your grasp?” Finn chuckled as he sped down the road.

“No, that you love me,” she replied with a wide smile.

“I love you. I'll never tire of telling you.” He wanted to hold her in his arms and tell her again and again.

“I love you too,” she replied.

“I'll never tire of hearing it either,” he promised, his eyes abandoning the road to look into her shining eyes.

She looked away from him in surprise and fear; he turned to look at what had her so terrified. He never saw it. He only felt the impact of the crash down to his very bones, and the tinkle of shattered glass before the darkness claimed him. He could hear her screaming his name.

EPILOGUE

FINN HAD BARELY UNSTRAPPED HIS TWINS, Maximillian and Milania, from their car seats when they alighted in an explosion of energy and skipped into the building. Their parents’ admonitions were barely heard as they raced through the door.

Finn raced to the other side of the car to help his heavily pregnant wife out of the car.

“They exhaust me even when I’m only looking at them.” Owen was on vacation at the moment, so Finn was his family’s chauffeur for the time being. Not that he minded.

Kalilah sighed as she placed her feet on the ground, one hand massaging the small of her back and another lazily caressing her swollen stomach.

“Trust your kids to make sure I never have a moment's rest.”

“I love you.” Finn smiled at her resigned expression, “and I’m sure you’ll finally get some rest when the baby is here.”

“Remember the birth of the twins?” she prompted. Finn shuddered in mock fear.

“But it will be one baby this time.”

“Having one newborn should be easier than having two,” she returned with a smile wider than his had been. “I love you, even though your children exhaust me.”

“I know,” he replied and reached behind her for her purse. He snagged her hand, leading her towards the dance studio.

Four years after their reunion, and after that fateful accident on the road, he had everything he wanted – if you could call a crazed psycho-ex-boyfriend crashing into them an ‘accident’.

He didn’t think it was, the law didn’t either, and Jonathan had gone to prison for attempted murder and would soon be deported back to the US. He had suffered a broken leg and now had a limp from that accident, but Kalilah was thankfully unharmed and his babies were born healthy, exactly eight months later. That was all that mattered to him.

A few things had happened after the incident.

He and Kalilah lived with their children in a five-bedroom, lakefront house in the west of Montréal. Kalilah had accomplished her dream of opening her non-profit organization for women and served as the director. Kalilah’s father had semi-retired and Finn had assumed the role of CEO at Anderson Realty. Kaiya’s dancing school was thriving and stayed fully booked throughout the year with classes for young aspiring dancers.

Kalilah had forgiven her father, but she never forgot all he had done to her. The children were introduced to their grandparents, but emotions were strained during such events. Her mom, who had always been cold to her and Kaiya when they were growing up, was surprisingly warm and patient with her grandchildren, especially her grandson.
