When she’d walked into the restaurant, all eyes followed her entrance. She was truly beautiful and poised, and just one glance would tell anyone she was a model. It wasn’t that she went all out with the makeup or outfit, seeking attention or the spotlight. There was just something about her that captivated the senses.
Thanks to her very widespread modeling work, be it magazine covers or fashion shows, he’d seen her play the perfect girl next door with her sunlit glow, yet still pull off the sophisticated temptress in the next instance. She was indeed exquisite and it was a wonder he’d kept away this long.
Tonight her form-fitting black dress dipped slightly in front to reveal her gorgeous cleavage, and the knee-length hem set off her amazing legs in those bend-me-over black stilettos. Looking at her sent Samuel’s mind back to that night two months ago, bringing it all back to life and making him harden at the tantalizing memory. This was one woman he hadn’t managed to get out of his head in a hurry.
Yet beneath her exquisitely styled exterior, Samuel could sense something different.
Their special chemistry raged as compellingly as ever, as just a brush of his hand against hers on the table sent off sparks between them… But somehow, she seemed filled with disquiet. All through the meal she’d been pensive and insisted on drinking only water despite the fact he’d ordered the best wines to set the mood.
“Dina, is everything okay?” he asked gently. Had he bruised her feelings with his promise to call and then not doing so? How could he explain the concerns he’d let hold him back?
It was the same issues that had him giving his family business a wide berth… Whether it was with relationships or a job at the Franklin firm, he wasn’t keen on being tied down. Responsibility, commitment and everything in between was just hassle, period. The family automotive business practically ran itself and besides, he had more than enough money in a trust fund that he never felt the urge to take on his role in his father’s company.
Seriously, who needed to think about tires and improving frames when it was just as helpful for him to stay out of the way partying across the globe?
Sure, his father made it clear enough he wished Samuel would take more of an interest. But Samuel just never felt driven to. Life was too short – he’d rather party and enjoy himself since he was so well suited to that lifestyle. And yes, it could get boring, especially with the same fawning females seeking his attention, but then he could always change scenery to spice things up.
That’s probably why he landed in New York a day ago after spending the last few weeks in LA, partying every other night. And now he had his perfect fantasy woman joining him for dinner, but something was totally off and he wanted to know why.
“Is it something to do with work?” he asked, resting a gentle hand over hers on the table as he smiled. “I read about your recent nomination for model of the year – congratulations. But something tells me you’ve been taking on too many projects to deal with the pressure.”
Dina’s head shot up at his words, her surprise evident. “You read about me?”
“Certainly. You’re hardly unknown, Dina. It’s getting pretty hard to miss your face or name showing up on those magazines covers or TV ads. It made me really proud of you.”
He could tell his genuine words warmed her from the way her smile softened. “So why didn’t you ever call?”
Samuel went still. How could he tell her the truth he’d been denying even to himself?
And yet somehow, he couldn’t seem to stop himself from at least giving her an honest answer – not when she looked at him with those melting brown orbs. He definitely owed her that much. “Dina, I don’t think it’s pure chance that we met or got to spend that night together. Have you ever wondered, for a moment, if there could be more between us?”
“Samuel…” Her face mirrored both shock and hesitation. Samuel’s fingers tightened on hers to keep her from pulling back.
“I’m sure that night was as unforgettable for you as it’s been for me. The sex was incredible, but I don’t think that’s all that can be between us.” He lifted her hand to his lips, rewarded by her palpable quiver as he kissed her knuckles.
“You don’t know what you’re saying,” Dina breathed.
“I know what I want,” he said. “And I want you. Not just for a hook-up now and then. That’s not what I’m here for. I mean, I thought I could settle for that, if that’s what you were into as well. And yet, the minute you walked in, something about you pulled at something inside me I never even knew was there. I’m curious to discover just what it could be – and no woman’s ever made me curious that way, ever.”
