“I thought I made it clear my decision was final,” Dean said when she gave one last bid for him to see reason. “You’re making me repeat myself, Sheri. And you never used to be this…disobedient.”
He rose from behind his desk, and when he came close, rested his hand on the back of her neck, the gesture a thrilling reminder of just that morning when he’d made her submit to his sensual torture in ways that still had her aching.
“I just wish you’d for once see things from my perspective,” she said with barely reined in exasperation. “If Elle Granger is the problem, I can set you up with someone else. I just…”
She cut off when his eyes narrowed. “And it’s fine with you, setting me up with other women? Even after our time in Italy?”
She sighed. She knew she’d never forget those days and nights – exploring the beautiful city with Dean when they had the chance, the wonderful sights, the amazing food and wine, and the scent of romance in every breath you took. But she’d never be foolish enough to think what they shared was more than what it was. No matter how much she wished things were different.
“Dean, I’m your assistant. I just do what I have to do,” she told him calmly.
“And, sharing my bed?” He took her hand and pulled her up against him, his hooded gaze scanning her flushed face. “Is that you simply fulfilling what you have to do? I’d hate to think it was that much of a chore.”
The husky hint of humor in his tone had her bristling. She shoved against his chest and he let her go with a thin smirk. “You can’t convince me you’d be happy at the thought of me being with other women. Just as the mere thought of you with another man makes me see red. So, stop defying me, Sheri,” he said softly, stealing a warm kiss on her lips and then spinning her round before giving her ass a sharp spank, making her cry out.
“Now get back to your desk, unless you really want to get tongues wagging. Because I’m thinking of giving in to the need to have you after all, right here. Especially when I know you’re naked and wet for me beneath that dress.”
“I’ll just return to work then,” Sheri said, cheeks burning. Her last glimpse of his face showed his sexy smile, holding all the temptation and promise that had her wanting to throw caution to the winds and beg him to yes, have her after all.
Goodness knew how she was going to handle the rest of what awaited her, before this already eventful day came to an end…
Chapter 6
Sheri was more than glad that at least, she wasn’t going to have to show up in a costume. The dress Dean had picked was indeed amazing and worth the monstrous sum it obviously must have cost judging by the designer label. She recognized the gown from next year’s spring collection. It was super sexy, with a peek-a-boo bodice and a high-texture skirt with flat diamond cut-outs in the sides above the waist.
Definitely showing some more skin than Sheri was used to in public, but she had nothing to be ashamed of. She felt flattered Dean wanted to show her off this way, though she still worried they’d get undue attention. In the past when she’d partnered him at such events, she’d taken care to stay in the background.
But the dress he picked was far from the type to play wallflower in. It had red-carpet flair in its every stitch, bold and yet fluid. It felt like a dream to wear it, the powerful nude tones complementing her dusky complexion. To complete the look were black sexy heels, thin straps crisscrossing from her toes to her ankles.
What girl didn’t love to look beautiful, elegant, and feminine, especially for a formal event? She might be against the whole premise of playing the billionaire’s designer-clad arm candy, but Sheri had to admit she’d never looked hotter.
At that moment, there was a knock on the front door. She was surprised to see Dean’s driver Perry, who informed her his boss would meet her at the gala, before handing her a package. “He asked that you put this on for the occasion,” said Perry, giving a small smile. “I’ll be waiting down at the limo.”
Sheri stared at the box in her hand, thinking, oh not another present. She’d been adamant not to go on any shopping sprees while in Italy, despite Dean’s desire to spoil her with expensive indulgences. She’d only chosen to wear the outfit tonight because she didn’t have anything else that befit the event and she certainly didn’t want to embarrass Dean. However, she did intend to return both the dress and heels right afterward.
Finding that the box held a set of breathtaking diamond earrings and a matching necklace, Sheri gasped. I can’t wear this to the ball! No other sign would read “Mine” more than showing up next to Dean wearing such exquisite, costly gems.
