She walked into her apartment that night and immediately pulled a bottle from the wine rack, opened it, and swigged straight from the bottle not even bothering to pour it out.

She leant back against the counter and shook her head not only at everything she’d learnt but also at all the bullshit her last few months had been. She couldn’t figure it out, why Holden had given her that case in the first place and more than that she couldn’t figure out how it had taken her to that point to realise the whole thing was bogus, was redacted, was full of shit.

She heard a voice outside and then another higher-pitched one and groaned. Fucking Kelsey was back.

Sighing she went to open the door.

“Hey.” She said and Kelsey looked from the man standing there essentially guarding her door to Maddie in confusion.

“Who is that?” She asked eyeing him up as Maddie stepped back to let her waltz inside.

“Long story.” Maddie stated.

“You okay? Not some stupid ex causing you trouble?”

Maddie laughed. “I wish. I could handle that. It’s just some work stuff.”

Kelsey shrugged and wandered off to rifle through her fridge. Maddie smirked. The good thing about Kelsey was that she didn’t really have the foggiest what Maddie did, she thought she was a CSI tech which amused Maddie no end.

Still, she’d rather she was out of the loop, Kelsey was a potential liability, what with her sex tape, her constant gaffs and god knows what else. The less she knew the better which was why Maddie kept the fact they were sisters on the low down. She didn’t want anyone knowing because it kept things simple. Easy.

“I’m ordering pizza if you want some?” She said and Kelsey pouted.

“Can’t, there’s rumours they might pick me for Victoria Secrets this year, gotta stay extra slim just in case.”

“Wow Kels, that’d be amazing.” Maddie said.

“I know right. Imagine me strutting my stuff with the likes of Alessandra Ambrosio.”

“Sounds amazing.” Maddie said even though she had no idea who that was. “When do you find out?”

“Oh not for absolute ages, but still, I can’t put on any weight or I won’t get it.” Kelsey said.

“So… no pizza then?” Maddie asked and Kelsey laughed.

“Maybe just a slice.” She replied smiling.

“That is the right answer.” Maddie said before picking up her phone. God she was starving she thought.

“What you got planned for the weekend Maddie?” Becky asked after shutting her computer down. It was the end of Maddie’s second week and she they’d both had a pretty tedious few days of running through some data one of the field teams had pulled and Maddie felt like she was starting to go cross eyed.

“Not much. I’m sussing out a new gym tonight, then maybe catching up with a few friends. You?” Maddie replied.

“Nothing much but how come you’re not using the company gym?”

“There’s a company gym?” Maddie said.
