“Seriously? I only jumped from a van. It’s not that big a deal. I used to jump out of planes all the damn time.” She snapped and he shook his head.

“Yeah but then you would have had a parachute..”

“Only when you were lucky.” She replied and Brandon snorted.

“Stop being a pain Maddie and just let the man do his job.” Cole said and she threw him a look too.

She knew she was fine. She wasn’t stupid, she’d landed exactly as she intended. Sure she was a little grazed but considering she was almost topless when she’d jumped that was to be expected right?

When the paramedic gave her the all clear it was all she could do not to smirk.

Brandon and Cole had moved away then, talking in low voices and Maddie narrowed her eyes wondering if it was her they were discussing or something else. Had they caught them, Grant and the others, she thought and she somehow she could tell from their body language that they had gotten away.

“Let’s go.” Cole said walking back over to her.

“Go where?” She asked.

“I’m taking you home.” He stated.

“Aww what a gentleman.” She replied and he shook his head.

“One day that mouth of yours is going to get you into real big trouble.” He muttered and she gave a little laugh.

“How’s that?” She quipped.

“Keep talking and I might just show you.” He replied so quietly she wasn’t sure she heard him right. She swallowed, suddenly lost for words and she followed him obediently then back to the car and sat in silence the whole way back to her apartment.
