“I know that. But I love you already so why wait?”
She shut her eyes wishing to god this night had just turned out the way she planned. Chinese leftovers and Netflix. Peace and quiet.
“We aren’t even together.” She said.
“I just fucked you in your shower Maddie.” He replied and she heard the edge then.
“Yeah and it was great but that’s what it was. Sex. We agreed to that.”
“No you made me agree to that. I wanted more. I’ve always wanted more.”
“Urgh.” She replied getting up and walking to the kitchen. How the hell was she going to get out of this?
“Mads please, you know you love me.”
She groaned opening the fridge and taking a long swig of the juice straight from the carton.
“Mads…”
“That’s the thing.” She said turning round to face him as if the OJ had just given her some extra strength. “I don’t love you Grant. I don’t think I ever will. It’s been fun. The sex was alright but what more do you want?”
“Alright? The sex was alright?” He replied narrowing his eyes and she instantly regretted her choice of words.
“I think you should go.” She said quietly and he frowned.
“Mads, we can work this out...”
“No Grant. You’re a great guy, you really are but you’re not my guy. Now please go.”
He shook his head for a moment before storming into the bathroom to grab his remaining clothes and then storming back out to grab his bag and leave.
He slammed the door and she sighed, leaning against the larder door and then she heard the front door open again. Jesus, she thought, why had he come back? She held her breath. Despite what people thought she really didn’t like confrontations, at least not personal ones like this.
He walked in, storming to the couch and picked up the ring before slamming the flat keys down on the kitchen island and then walking out again.
As soon as he was gone she let out a small laugh. Not because it was funny because it wasn’t but he’d taken the ring. He’d walked right back in just to take it and something about it just made it funny.
