“The video was something.” He stated grinning.

“I do not want to hear it.” Maddie replied and he laughed.

“What’s she gonna do now?”

“Don’t know. Her dad is fixing it, I’m sure she’ll come back in a few months smelling of roses though.” Maddie stated.

“You mean your dad is fixing it?” He said.

She frowned. “He’s not my dad Burke. You know that.”

“Yeah but you never explained why.” He replied.

“I don’t have too. It’s enough to know I don’t have a relationship with the man.” Maddie stated.

“Oh I got you some more info on that Anderson guy.” Burke said quietly.

“Really?” Maddie asked surprised.

“Yeah.” He said glancing around and checking no one was looking. “I copied this from the file.”

“Thanks Burke.” She said.

“So you’re still working that case then?” He asked.

“Kind of, like I said it’s complicated.” She replied.

“Well when you crack it be sure to let the great Cole Black know I helped.” He said half joking half serious.

“Why you wanna join BlackWater?” She asked.

He shrugged. “The pay’s better than Homewell, and I’ve heard the gym is worth it.”

She laughed then folding and tucking the paper into her jacket pocket.

Maddie walked into her apartment, shut the door, kicked off her shoes and then immediately froze hearing voices. Shaking her head slightly she walked past the kitchen area and saw them both sat on her couch, both clearly making themselves at home.

“What is this?” She said looking between them.

“Hi Maddie.” Brandon said and she scowled looking from him to Cole.

“You do know this is my apartment right?” She said because Cole was literally treating the place like he owned it.

“Sit down Maddie.” Cole said and she gritted her teeth.

“What’s going on?” She asked.

“Sit down and you’ll find out.” He said and she narrowed her eyes. Where did this man get off, she thought, not only had he literally taken over the entirety of her apartment, but now he was inviting other people into her space too.

She sat, scowling, and waited.

Brandon smirked and if anything that pissed her off more.

“Remember I told you how we thought there was a mole at BlackWater…” Cole began.

“Did you find them?” Maddie gasped before she could stop herself.

“Not exactly.” Cole said.

“Meaning…?” Maddie said.

“Meaning Becky was attacked this evening.” Brandon said and she felt her jaw drop with shock.

“What? Where? Is she okay?” Maddie asked looking between them.
