“Detective Chief Inspector Mullins.” The man stated flashing his badge. “This is DI Grey. Special Branch.”

“Urgh.” Maddie groaned before she could help herself and they both glanced at her.

“We’re running the criminal investigation.” Mullins said looking back to Cole. “Any information you have, any information BlackWater has that relates to this we want.”

“You do get why that can’t happen.” Maddie said before Cole could reply.

“Who are you and why is that?” Mullins snapped.

“Maddie Cooper. BlackWater.” She said. “And it’s classified that’s why. It’s way above your paygrade.”

He narrowed his eyes. “At least a hundred people are dead. There are countless others who have sustained life-changing injuries…”

“And yet it doesn’t change the facts.” Cole said. “We don’t have to give you anything.”

“We can get a warrant.” Grey said.

“Good luck with that.” Maddie muttered.

“Matters of national security do not come under your jurisdiction.” Cole stated. “Now do me a favour and fuck off.”

Mullins shook his head. Grey narrowed his eyes looking from Maddie to Cole.

“Let’s go.” Mullins murmured and both Maddie and Cole watched as they disappeared.

“Fucking hell.” Cole growled. “Now we’ve got that lot snooping around.”

“Brandon’s on it.” Maddie stated. “Let him take care of it.”

“Listen to you taking charge.” Cole said smirking.

“You like that Cole? Huh?” She said quietly. “Like when I start playing the dominant?”

He snorted. “Don’t get too carried away Maddie.” He said as the paramedic finally gave him the all clear to leave.

“Let’s go home.” She said as he took her hand.

“Not yet. My people are still in there. I’m not leaving yet.”

“Then I’ll wait with you.” She said.
