Maddie sat in the office beside her team listening to Brandon as he went through all the information, all the intel, everything they knew from the attack.
It was only the day after and yet it felt like everything had changed. Everything had gone to shit.
“I can’t believe this is happening.” Becky muttered.
“I know.” Maddie replied.
“Maddie you were at the scene. Did you see anything?” Brandon asked.
“No nothing but I wasn’t exactly looking and by the time I got there, there were police and first responders everywhere.” Maddie stated.
“From what we can tell the five owners had no idea their cars were carrying bombs.” Douglas stated.
“And they must have been specifically targeted because of their assigned car park spaces.” Thomas added.
“Which means there was insider information.” Maddie said. “How would someone know who parks where?”
Brandon narrowed his eyes. “Maybe we need to look at Black Industries more closely.”
“You think they have a mole?” Becky asked.
“I think it’s worth considering.” Maddie said.
“Fine.” Brandon said. “Doug you take the lead. Maddie, walk with me.”
Maddie got up, wincing at the pain in her leg. It was definitely getting worse now. A lot worse.
She followed Brandon out of the office, frowning as he walked towards the lift.
“What…?” She began.
“Not here.” He muttered.
She shrugged and continued following him. They walked out the building, down the street. Away from any potential BlackWater people. They crossed the road, walking to where the path rang along the river.
And then Brandon stopped turning to face her.
“Maddie I need to ask you something.”
“Go ahead.” She said.
“Is there anything you want to tell me?”
“About what?” She asked confused.
“About the bomb, about the attack, about Cole, anything at all.”
“What are you asking Brandon?” She said slowly.
“Look, I’m not saying you knew it was going to happen but…”
“Armed Police. Put your hands up.” Someone shouted and they both turned seeing at least a dozen surrounding them.
“Is this a fucking joke?” Maddie snarled.
“Get on the ground now.” Someone yelled.
“Do it Maddie.” Brandon muttered. Maddie narrowed her eyes, getting on her knees and groaning as her leg protested.
