They swooped in immediately, pushing Brandon aside. Rifles all focused on Maddie. They shoved her to the concrete, face first, and cuffed her hands behind her back.

“Maddison Cooper you’re under arrest. You do not have to say anything when questioned but anything you do say in evidence maybe used against you.” A man said almost smugly and she looked up seeing it was the same arsehole DCI from the other day.

“Get her up.” He said.

“What the fuck is this?” Brandon snarled.

“Get out of my way or I’ll arrest you for obstruction.” Mullins replied as they yanked Maddie to her feet.

She let out a groan as her damn leg gave way and the man holding her failed to take her weight so she fell hard back onto the pavement.

“Fuck.” She cried.

“Get a medic.” Brandon snapped.

“You’re not in charge here. I am.” Mullins stated. “Take her away.”

Brandon narrowed his eyes, going to move, going to block them but Maddie shook her head at him.

“Call Cole.” She said.

“Don’t worry Mads. I’ll get this sorted.” Brandon said as they hauled her away.

“Good luck with that.” Mullins muttered.

They strip searched her, threw her into a cell and almost immediately she was hauled out into an interview room. As if they too understood what little time they had before BlackWater was going to step in.

She limped in, holding her thigh and sat down opposite Mullins and Grey.

“Time is 11.47. Interview with suspect Maddison Cooper. Officers DCI Mullens and DI Grey.” Grey said into the recording.

“Yesterday at approximately three pm a series of explosions went off at Black Industries. What can you tell us about it?” Mullins asked.

“Nothing. It’s classified.” Maddie said.

“Not if you committed a crime it isn’t.” Mullins stated.

“And what crime is that?” She replied.

“If you were involved…”

“With what? The bombing?” She scoffed. “Why would I blow up Black Industries?”

“You were overheard at the scene. A witness places you on the phone talking about the fact Cole Black wasn’t injured.”

“What witness?” She asked.

“A police officer.”

She smirked. “I was on the phone to Brandon Black. It’s hardly criminal to tell him his cousin is alive.”

“And yet you said and I quote ‘it was only a matter of time’ and that Cole had ‘dodged a bullet.’

“Again, not a crime and secondly if you knew the case you’d understand why I made those comment.”

“What case?” Grey asked.

“It’s classified.” She said through gritted teeth.
