“That girl saved my life. Only this week.” Cole retorted. “Saved half of BlackWater and Black Industries too including Brandon and Charlotte.”

“Cole.” Maddie said shaking her head, suddenly there and clearly having walked into something she didn’t want to but she sure as hell wasn’t just going to stand there and say nothing.

“She killed twelve armed men single handed and when someone put a gun to my head she killed him too. She pulled the trigger without hesitation.” Cole said his eyes flashing with fury.

“Cole.” Brandon said sternly.

Maddie felt Constance’s eyes turn to look at her as if she was only seeing her properly for the first time. Felt all their eyes and she gritted her teeth. She didn’t need him to defend her. She was perfectly capable of standing up for herself and besides, he’d made her sound like some sort of hero when she wasn’t. She wasn’t some god damn saviour she thought and she shook her head slightly before walking out of the room.

“I didn’t realise…” Constance said.

“Of course you didn’t.” Cole replied. “But she isn’t just some girl and I’d thank you all to treat her with a bit more respect.”

“I’m sorry.” Charles said looking from Cole to Brandon.

Cole let out a long deep breath before going to find Maddie.
