“Not those kinds of fantasies.”
The spark in her eyes told him she meant exactly that kind. “You don’t have to pretend with me, Jordan. You’re a beautiful, sensual woman, and it would be a shame if you didn’t explore that as often and as thoroughly as you could. So tell me the truth. You have dirty fantasies, don’t you?”
“Fine. I do, but I have other ones, too.”
This just kept getting better. “I think I need a list.”
“I’m not telling you my dirty fantasies. But I’ll tell you some of my bad-girl fantasies.”
“I’m all ears.” And hands, mouth…
“I’ve never crashed a party or gotten drunk on fruity drinks.”
“A night of partying doesn’t make you a bad girl.”
“Okay, those are tame examples. I’ve never gone skinny-dipping, and I really want to.”
“Still not bad, sweetheart. In fact, it just makes you even more alluring. What else you got?”
She crooked her finger, beckoning him closer and whispering again. “I’ve never fooled around in a car or had sex on a beach.”
Her cuteness was an aphrodisiac. “Still not bad, just wickedly naughty, which I happen to like very much.”
“I can’t believe I told you that.” She looked at her champagne glass. “Is there truth serum in there? How did we even get on that subject?”
“I don’t know, but I’m not sorry. Are you?”
“No,” she said softly, her honesty hanging between them like Eve’s forbidden apple. “Cake. I need cake.” She nervously dug into a slice of café latte cake and shoved it in her mouth.
What you need is me, sweetheart.
“Mm, Jax, this is it. This is heaven. Stop looking at me like that and taste this.”
“Looking at you like what?”
She whispered, “Like you’re thinking about watching me skinny-dip!” She held up a forkful of cake. “Now give me your mouth.”
“I’ll give you a lot more than my m—”
She shoved the cake into his mouth with a sassy smile. He wrapped his hand around hers over the fork, keeping it still as he swallowed the bite and licked the fork clean, turning her sassy smile hotter, sexier, purely desirous. Her gaze dipped to his mouth, and she licked her lips, drawing him deeper into her beautiful vortex. He longed to feel those luscious lips around his cock as he devoured her like she’d never been pleasured before and itched to drag her into a dark corner and seal his mouth over hers. To lift her up in that flirty little dress and take her against a wall, hard and deep.
Her tongue slid over her lower lip.
“Better stop doing that.” Before I take that lip between my teeth and tug so you feel the sting between your legs.
“Jax,” she whispered lustfully. The desire in her eyes was inescapable, but she quickly looked away.
Come back. Get lost in us again.
“Cake,” she panted out, and shoved another forkful in her mouth.
She was staring at the cake as if she were afraid to look at him. But there wasn’t enough cake in the world to smother the inferno between them, and he wasn’t ready to let it go.
“Jordan.”He put his hand on her leg, drawing her eyes to his. Deep wells of want and need gazed back at him, but she looked as tortured as he felt. He didn’t want to cause her angst, so he tempered his desires and reached up, cupping her cheek and wiping chocolate from the corner of her mouth just as Finlay returned.
“How’s it going over here? Did you pick a favorite?” Finlay asked.
He held Jordan’s gaze as he said, “I’ve definitely found mine,” and licked the chocolate from his thumb.
“I LIKE A man who knows what he wants,” Finlay said. “How about you, Jordan? Did you find one you can’t live without?”
“I think so,” she said absently, imagining Jax licking chocolate from all of her loneliest places.
“Wonderful!” Finlay exclaimed, jerking Jordan back to reality. “Which flavor?”
Flavor. Shit. She looked at the cake, trying to focus on it instead of the lust billowing inside her, rattling her brain. But it was like trying to hold back a gust of wind. “I liked the café latte best, but I’m not sure I can make the final decision without consulting Todd.”
Jax pressed his leg against hers under the table, sending a shiver of awareness through her. “Given how busy Todd is and what he said about cake, I think he’d be thrilled if you made a final decision. The right decision for you.”
He was right. Todd didn’t give a damn about the cake or the venue. She wasn’t even sure he gave a damn about her anymore.
“That’s okay. There’s no rush,” Finlay said.
“No, Jax is absolutely right. Todd doesn’t have time to think about anything but work. If I wait for him to make a decision, the wedding will be postponed again.”
“In that case,” Jax mumbled for her ears only.
She couldn’t help but smile. “I think I need a few days, if that’s okay.”
“Yes, of course,” Finlay said. “We can talk after you review the menus. Are you two sticking around for dinner? I have a delicious special tonight.”
“I’m sure Jax has plans,” Jordan said at the same time Jax said, “Yes.”
“My night is spoken for,” Jax said, looking at her. “By my very beautiful friend.”
Her stomach flipped. “What about Coco?”
“She was the one who suggested I hang out with you today. She’s having a girls’ day with Grandma. What do you say, Jordan? Should we try Finlay’s special and have a cocktail?”
She didn’t know if it was the champagne or Jax’s interest bolstering her confidence, making her want to take a chance, to be bold and enjoy herself, but as she said, “I’d love to,” it sure as heck felt good. “But no more champagne. That stuff is like truth serum.”
“I was thinking Sex on the Beach.”
“Jax.”Her mind was sprinting to the beach.
“I meant the drink. It’s a fruity cocktail. But if you’d rather…” He waggled his brows.
She swatted his arm.
Finlay giggled. “So we’re having Sex on the Beach and tonight’s special?”
As if she even had a choice?“Yes, please.”
