“Let go, baby. Come for us.” He reclaimed her mouth, but in the next breath her head fell back, eyes closed as she succumbed to their passion. Her body clenched tight and hot around him. He gritted his teeth, staving off his own powerful release, wanting to look into her eyes, to see her ravaged with pleasure as they crossed that bridge together.

He took her in a slow, sensual kiss as the last of her climax rumbled through her, and when their lips parted, he wanted to say a hundred romantic, unforgettable things. But as her eyes found his, soft and hauntingly sultry, his emotions took over, and he wrapped his arms around her, giving in to the whirlwind that had swept him up months ago. She was right there with him, clinging to him like she’d never let go. He felt her muscles tightening, unleashing the last of his restraint. Pleasure spiked through him, clawing up his core as he sent them both spiraling into ecstasy. Their kisses turned urgent and messy, hands groping, bodies thrusting, until they collapsed, sated and sweaty, to the mattress.

He held her close, burying his face in her neck. “God, what you do to me. I wasn’t too rough, was I?” He kissed the crook of her neck and lifted his face, drinking in her blissed-out expression.

Her lips curved up, and she shook her head. “You were perfect. I might be a little sore later from using muscles that I’m not used to using, but that’s a good pain.”

“I’ll have to give you a rubdown.” He rolled them onto their sides, reveling in the feel of her snuggling against him, wishing they could blow off work and spend the day together. He wouldn’t care what they did. He just wanted more time with her.

JORDAN WAS FLOATING on a cloud of happiness. Jax felt so good, she didn’t want to move out of his arms, much less out of her bed, but she had to get cleaned up. His eyes were closed, and he looked so peaceful, but he held her tight, one hand on her back, the other on her bottom, as if he didn’t want her to sneak away. She used to think she was asking for too much, wanting to feel desired and made a priority. But he did those things all on his own, making it easy for her to reciprocate and making her want to do so much more—in and out of bed.

“Jax.” She kissed his chest. “I need to use the bathroom.”

“Okay. I should let Coco out back, too.” He tightened his hold on her. “But I don’t want to move.”

She loved that. “Me neither, but I need to before things get messy.”

He groaned, kissing her again. “Go ahead, beautiful.” He swatted her butt as she climbed out of bed, and she glared at him over her shoulder.

“Next time I’ll bite it.”

She giggled as she went into the bathroom, closing the door behind her. She felt so alive, she bounced on her toes, doing a little happy dance. To think she could have gone her whole life without ever feeling the way she did with Jax. She looked in the mirror. Her hair was a mess and her skin was flushed, but for the first time in her life, she felt sexy and truly wanted. She touched her face, catching sight of her engagement ring, bringing betrayal rushing back like a bullet to her chest. The hateful things Todd had said echoed in her ears, bringing an onslaught of hurt. How could he have been so vicious after saying he loved her for so long? How could he have cheated on her? He’d sounded proud of it, too, which made her wonder who else knew about it. Did his parents know? His co-workers?

Humiliation nearly brought her to her knees, and she sank down to the edge of the tub. How could she have ever thought what they’d had was enough?

“Are you okay, sweetheart?” Jax asked through the door.

“Uh-huh” came out thin and shaky.

“Jordan?”

“Yeah. I’m okay.” Her voice cracked.

The door opened, and Jax peered in, wearing only his sweats, his brow knitting. “Oh, sweetheart.” He grabbed a towel from the rack and wrapped it around her, tucking the top into itself over her chest, as he lowered himself to one knee. “What’s wrong?”

His thoughtfulness drew tears. “I don’t know. I was fine, and then I saw my ring, and it all came back. The hurt and anger, and the betrayal just cut so deep.” She swiped at her tears.

He put his arms around her. “It’s okay, sweetheart. Your entire world was upended, and even though you got the better part of the deal,” he said with a teasing smile, “it’s going to take some time for the hurt to go away.”

“It didn’t take him any time to move on,” she bit out.

“Because he’s an unfeeling prick. Thank God you’re not like him.”

“What will everyone think of me? I was engaged one minute, and I didn’t even take a breath before jumping into bed with you. Don’t get me wrong. I wanted to be with you. I still do. But how am I going to explain it? We just had dinner with your parents. They think I’m marrying Todd.” Her voice escalated as reality hit. “I can’t exactly say, Oh yeah. That was last week. Now I’m crazy about your son. They’ll worry that I’m unstable, or that you’re my rebound. Oh God. What if they think I’m with you because of who you are?”

“I hope you are into me because of the man that I am.”

“I am, but you know what I mean. They’ll think it’s because you design gowns for celebrities. What if everyone thinks that? What if your staff thinks that? How can I face them? They’ll assume I’m a gold digger.”

“Jordan, slow down and take a breath.” He took her hands in his. “Let’s take this one step at a time. First, I’ll cancel the billboard announcing our relationship.”

She appreciated his levity, but she was too rattled for it to help.

“Seriously, babe. You shouldn’t feel any pressure about us. We’ll take things slow while we figure this out. We’ll be cool in public, and I know it’s not just what people will think or say. It’s also a lot to deal with in your own head. We don’t need to jump back into bed until you’re ready.”

She hated putting restrictions on them. “Okay. But you know this isn’t about not wanting to be with you. I still want to see you. I just need to get my arms around this situation without feeling like everyone at my work, and your family, will judge me.”

“I know. Let’s start at the beginning. Have you told your aunt and uncle that you and Todd broke up?”

“Not yet.”
